Hi Everyone Just a quick follow up to my recent removal of a malignant Melanoma.

Acral lentiginous melanoma of the plantar surface is the only type of melanoma which arises equally across all skin types and late or misdiagnosis of this particular form of melanoma has a significantly higher mortality rate (33%).

Continued that way for 18 months until last week CLL was confirmed while doing a biopsy for a suspect mole and having a melanoma removed. So a double whammy. More surgery and tests to see if the melanoma has spread to my lymph nodes plus it looks like i have had CLL for a couple of years.

Other than melanoma my health has been very good in recent years.

Shortly after returning home from hospital I started on targeted therapy to treat my melanoma which has been working really well ever since.

On the subject of melanoma, this has not been mentioned to me even though my oncologist knows I am headed for a vacation in the Caribbean. Granted that at my age (82) I will not be sporting any bikinis, and I always avoid too much sun, it is good to know so I will be extra careful this trip.

Surgery for stage 3 melanoma was today (wide excision plus lymph nodes). I feel like I am on quite the journey. Am already finding this community helpful. Thank you.

He then referred me to a plastic surgeon who was to do a wider excision - which is standard even though this melanoma was only small (Stage 1) .

A very happy outcome, as all medics seen in the process suspected subungual melanoma. I can live with not knowing what it is and so grateful I escaped a second cancer diagnosis! Thanks to all who have been supportive, a much appreciated.

I have been on different immunosuppressants since 2019 and read these are linked to melanoma in some patients. I also for the first time had gel nails in the last 2 Years and exposed my hands to UV light. My nails were pretty poor and this helped to strenghten them.
