stopped ppi!
Hi all After reading and discussing this issue with many people I have stopped my lansoprazol!!! Taken since 2008 My main reason for stopping them was my daughter had a stomach bug and I was under the impression that taking these makes you more prone to catching it as they suppress your own stomach

Treating Low Stomach Acid
I have been suffering from chronic GERD (indigestion/ stomach acid) for ages. So my GP gave a script for a giant bottle of Gaviscon (the type that contains potassium hydrogen carbonate) I took a dose and -oh my goodness - I had the worse acid attack I've had in years. I stupidly thought I hadn't taken

When to take Betaine HCL supplements?
Hi there! I'm a little confused on the usage of Betaine HCL. I am aware that it is mainly used to digest protein rich foods like meat. However what about bread, dairy, eggs and so on? Looking at the packaging of a lot of things I've been unaware so many things contain protein and some even rival meat

digestion
I have had problems with digestion. After a test I was told it was low stomach acid and was put on hydrochloride and pepsin. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't feel a lot better yet but maybe it takes times. As we age we don't have as much acid although we are usually given meds that decrease

VITAMIN B12
Here is a short explanation of the mechanism by which the normal body acquires this important substance. It will be apparent that with our drastically cut-down stomach tissue this process can be impaired, resulting in the need for supplementation by oral &/or injectable routes. There is the possibility

Horrible stomach problems
Hi guys, I was wondering if somebody can help me. In the summer of 2013 I started to feel nausea, no appetite. In the summer of 2012 I experienced nausea and reflux and with 2,5 months of Omeprazole that was fixed and after that had no problems at all. So when symptoms began in 2013 I called my GP and

Levothyroxin dose too small/big?
Hi, I am new here and trying to find some answers to my (largely) self medicating dilemmas. I am mostly living on Complan drinks as I am beginning

You'll have to forgive me if I lose my focus in this post, I'm going to type it off the top of my head to match my current, exact thoughts. A few months ago I posted here about a number of gastro symptoms that were plaguing me every day. Well guess what? Nothing has changed. I still suffer daily from

Article from Stop the Thyroid Madness Now regarding hypothyroidism and deficiencies:
What does stomach acid do for me? Two key benefits: absorption and protection. When food hits your stomach, it’s your stomach’s gastric acid that begins the breakdown of protein and most minerals with pepsin to prepare for the important absorption of key nutrients (like iron B12, Vit. D and MORE) in

Does lack of digestive enzymes in saliva and stomach go with Sjogrens ? Lost a lot of weight, no appetite, food hard to digest.
I use bioten for gluggy mouth, eye drops and ointments but now need to add pills before and during every meal just to digest anything even a small bowl of porridge. I'm assuming this is normal with Sjogrens is it? Taking amylase pepsin and betaine enzymes which help with the pain and bloating. Suggestions

You know, I really should have asked this question sooner..!
It looks like there might be light at the end of this tunnel. I've made a number of posts recently about my worries to do with pepsin in my throat, LPR and other GI/ENT problems I've been having for the last few months. While none of these have gone away, I suppose I should count my blessings that they

This one's gonna be a long one..! - LPR: A chronic, troublesome puzzle
First of all I'd like to say that I have read the replies to my previous posts, and taken them to heart. I'd like to personally thank everyone who has offered their support so far. However I cannot take these replies to my head, as right now it is illogical to say that I have anything other than LPR,

No hope, no cure, no future. Hit rock bottom ;(
Forgive me for this extra long post, but I'm honest and truly at the end of my rope. The "s" word has crossed my mind a lot in the last few days, and I was hoping a session of hypnotherapy would relieve it. It didn't, in fact only moments after leaving I fell to my knees in tears. I'll explain my story
