Hi I'm thinking of taking Betaine Hydrochloride and Pepsin its altogether supplement by Solgar on the bottle it states Caution: Do not take in case of stomach or duodenal pain or history of ulcers. Last year I had stomach ulcers imbfine now but wondering if I can take it ?
Low Acid : Hi I'm thinking of taking Betaine... - Thyroid UK
Low Acid
- Atrial fibrillation
- Addison's disease
- Betaine hydrochloride
- Pepsin
- Intestinal and stomach conditions
- Cardiovascular disease
I think it's quite clear if you've had a history of stomach ulcers you cannot take it.
This seems to be a reasonable link and it has an alternative recommendation but I would also look up if this can interfere also:-
Solution: if you’re not sure if you should take Betaine HCl, work with a skilled practitioner that knows about low stomach acid. And when in doubt… don’t use it. Instead, consider trying Digestive Bitters, which are a safe, natural stomach stimulant that can restore normal stomach acid production in some cases.
Emidjemal, I think you should run it by your GP first. Betaine Pepsin increases stomach acid which may not be good if you have a history of ulcers.
I suppose I'll have to take them back thanks
Have you tried apple cider vinegar? Many people find it helps with low stomach acid. I take Molkosan every morning before breakfast and that works for me.
Yes I already use it I just read that this is really good and wanted to try it
Last year I thought the cause of my stomach issues was low stomach acid- I was full after eating little and felt like there was a lump of food stuck in my chest. Turned out it was a h.pylori infection (the cause of most ulcers).
Have you been tested for this after your treatment last year? The first round of antibiotics doesn't always work. Good luck x
What is the test for H Pylori do you know? I've wondered about this (had everything else, SIBO, parasites, candida, allergies) and had similar symptoms to what you describe sometimes, almost like my stomach isn't emptying?
Thanks
x
It's horrible isn't it? It was just a simple stool sample and I think it was 2 weeks of 2 different antibiotics. Definitely get it checked xx
Thanks, yes like a pain under the ribs sort of thing? I have done three rounds of antibiotics for SIBO and parasites (metrondiazole (ie Flagyl) and one other which I've forgotten) so that might have knocked anything on the head, but I don't seem to absorb meds partic well and still wondering if there's something lurking. Thanks x
