Hi I have difficulty taking iron tablets even very low dose like spatone. I am not vegetarian and eat meat fish and varied diet apart from high fibre such as lentils which cause problems with my IBS. I’ve see people recommend heme iron but I’m not sure what that is and why it may be better and can anybody recommend a brand

Thank you

My mum has IBS and tolerates floradix. Best taken away from food with vit c every other day I've read.

It's a matter of finding what works for you .

I've heard of elemental iron needed .

I also am not sure what I meant by haem iron.

Haem I expect just an abbreviation for haemoglobin????

I believe heme iron is natural iron, from organ meat. So spleen and liver from cows etc in capsule form.

I really want it to be haem as well, since that’s how we spell haematology etc here. And it makes sense. Not sure why it’s heme.

Heme is the American word for haem.

I take haem/heme/elemental iron (processed from bovine spleen). I buy on-line from Three Arrows in USA. Suggest building up from 1 to 2 to 3 capsules over several months and then finding your maintenance dose. As I can't absorb iron from food I will probably take maintenance for the foreseeable. At the moment I'm researching with the support of a private haematologist and NHS blood tests every six months. The effect has been life-changing.

Thank you. Do you normally have side effects from normal iron tablets? In what way has it been life changing? Good to hear you have found something that suits you

Synthesized iron gives me very unpleasant digestive cramps. I can't take them.I have the kind of energy I used to have, allowing for age! The combination of B12 SI and haem iron has restored my health after three years (since diagnosis). But I will never count my chickens. Any progress has to be maintained by regulating exercise, activity, stress and diet. The thread today on stomach cancer is an alert for me and reminds me to begin the next push for a second endoscopy.

Hello Orchard 33 would you please leave a link to the website that you order your bovine iron from please. I'm also having a hard time with iron levels and my hair falling out and nerves a wreck. I also noticed heart palpitations when iron is low. I've tried several and the only one that brings it up just a little is solagar gentle iron, so if I can find something a lot better I would appreciate it. I'm praying this will be the charm for smg1950 and myself. Thank you so much!

Found this one at this website.threearrowsnutra.com/ Is this right? There were several sites that offered it but many had negative reviews for really late shipping but good product. A big thanks for sharing. I really appreciate it. Take care and have a peaceful day!

Yes, that's it. Three Arrows Nutra Iron Repair. Go directly to them. Allow two weeks for shipping and customs. I've never had any problem. And there is dosage advice and other support material.

Fingers crossed for us both x

Spleen products are bovine derived spleen which contain the highest natural source of heme iron available from any other source.

Heme iron can only be obtained from red meat and is iron derived from haemoglobin already attached to protein that is highly bioavailable, meaning it gets straight into the bloodstream.

Freeze dried organ meat contain more of the heat sensitive vitamins, minerals and co factors that make organ meat so nourishing to our health.

There’s an Australian made product which also supplies to the UK and the USA, called NXGENWHOLEFOODS. Well worth a search through the relevant suppliers which are:

For the UK:-

Absolutely pure London,

absolutelypure.com/foodsupp...

Functional Nutrition Limited Sheffield,

amritanutrition.co.uk/produ...

United States:-

Nourishing World Coventry Rhode Island,

nourishingworld.com/nxgen/

Routed Nutrition NY,

routed-nutrition.com/shop

New Zealand:-

Nature Foods Kilbirnie Wellington,

naturefoods.co.nz/supplemen...

NXGEN Wholefoods are an organic beef freeze dried range of products that are naturally beneficial for overall good health. It’s a highly reputable company. I’ve been using their products for the past few years and I’m hoping that if you’re looking for a natural heme iron supplement then this is highly recommended. Do your own research on this product to see many other benefitial supplements available.

Thank you. Will look them up. I’m waiting for a blood test to confirm anaemia before I start anything new.

Even if your tests don't show anaemia you can still be iron deficient due to poor absorption. I didn't show as clinically anaemic but I am iron deficient. Hence no treatment offered by my GP.
