Can someone please give me advice on how to cope? My husband died on Friday morning at the local hospice.(less than 24 hours ago) He had COPD and although we knew he was ill it was not expected yet least of all by the medical staff. I have not been to sleep since Friday morning when I got the phone

I am taking PARMID XL a calcium channel blocker for raised blood pressure. It's made it worse. Is it because I have stage 1 CLL.

High cholesterol (8.2) What's the best action and how quickly can I expect to reduce it?
I'm male 52, living in France. Just been diagnosed with a cholesterol count of 8.18 ( trig 2.26, HDL 1.60, LDL 5.56).... Hardly surprising, I live in the mountains famed for their cheese and wine production..... Whilst I speak reasonable day to day French I find it difficult to really understand and

Hypothyroidism and high cholesterol
Hello everyone. I am after a bit of advice. I have just had my sons (13) full lipid results back and have been told his thyroid is raised. 5.64 (should be 1-5). Has anyone else been in this situation? After doing some quick research It seems an over active thyroid can increase LDL (his is 5.94, total

Diabetics should beware of infections
I thank Medfree for enquiring about my BS levels and medicines. It was about 6 months ago when I joined this Forum that I heard about LCHF diet strongly advocated by Mr. Anup Singh. I tried it and found it effective in maintaining normal BS levels. I was able to reduce my daily insulin from 15 units

Statins
My hypothesis on the merits of statin therapy is as follows:- Do statins reduce serum cholesterol? Is cholesterol instrumental in the clogging up of arteries? Do blocked arteries (atherosclerosis) lead to heart attacks/strokes? Having answered in the affirmative to all 3 questions, which people benefit

Flutter Device
Hello all, Long time no speak!! I was just wondering firstly how you all are?! Secondly, I was just wondering if anyone has ever been given a flutter device from their physio...if you have one of course. If so, how have you found it, has it been better than postural drainage or equally as good?!

Totally in the dark with these readings :-(
I was recently admitted to A + E in the early hours with faintness and palpitations. My pulse on waking up at 3am was 140. In hospital they took blood tests and my cholesterol wasn't given on the form for my GP but the following figures were. Can anyone translate them? Are they bad readings? I'm 71 years

Can Vanishing Twin Syndrome and ITP be connected?
When I was 8 weeks pregnant with my daughter Beibhinn (diagnosed with ITP in Feb 13, at the age of 7 yrs), I had a heavy bleed with no cramps. At hospital they detected a heart beat. As I am O-Negative, I had to get an Anti-D injection. Beibhinn is O-Neg too. Numerous reasons for bleeding. I googled

Triglycerides: I'm puzzled. When I had the health check I was given a breakdown of the cholesterol test,
triglycerides being listed along with HDL, LDL, total and ratio. They seem to be the 'bad guys'.Then I was given a patronising lecture on healthy eating and various other issues, including not eating saturated fats but rather using polyunsaturated margarine instead. Then I see that actually margarine

Lowering Cholesterol
Just thought I'd share an interesting point about lowering cholesterol without the use of drugs. I have familial hyperlipoproteinaemia & have taken therapy for 40 yrs. My latest regime (for quite some years now) is Ezetrol 10mg. + Crestor 40mg daily & my cholesterol has never been less than 4.3 mmol
