Another setback
Neurocrine terminates the AADC gene therapy collaboration with Voyager. Disappointing news for AADC-gene therapy, and the potential safety concerns raised by the MRI changes (which led the FDA to put the study on hold) are a potential concern for future gene therapy trials https://endpts.com/neurocrine-axes-parkinsons-collab-with-voyager-after-safety-issues-jeopardizing-biotechs-longrunning-centerpiece

Pros and Cons of Four Different Brain Surgeries For Parkinson’s Diseases
An excellent article by Ben, where he discusses the pros and cons of 4 available interventions for PD patients with advanced stage. He discusses the following 4 procedures available currently: Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Cell Replacement Therapy (CRT) Focused Ultrasound (FUS) Gene Therapy (GT) https

B12 Pathway Genes
I read this article which discusses research on B12 pathway genes and their influence on circulating levels of B12. Most of the article was way over my head, but the parts that I did understand were very interesting. Maybe in the future gene therapy will cure some types of B12 deficiency. More research

Forbes magazine: Though Promising, Gene Therapies Face Durability And Reimbursement Headwinds
The promise of gene therapy is to cure diseases associated with faulty or missing genes. Ideally, gene therapies address the root causes of disease with a single curative dose. If they can replace a lifetime of expensive maintenance treatments this may lead to cost savings in the long run. Yet, the

MRI Guided Gene Therapy Trial About To Begin at Massachusetts General
To qualify as a candidate for this trial, a PwP must have been diagnosed at least three years ago and no longer be receptive to medication. Massachusetts General Hospital researchers are joining a phase II clinical trial to test a promising gene therapy for Parkinson's disease. The team is using a state-of-the-art

Cervical cancer - 10 months on...
Hi everyone :) Thank you for accepting me into the group I'm pretty sure no one wants to be in! I was treated for stage 1b3 squamous cell cervical cancer late last year, so am almost a year post treatment (5 weeks of chemoradiation and 2 x brachytherapy.) I attended all my cervical screening appts,

Shutting down COVID-19 virus' destructive proteins with aerosolized molecules.
Researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center have successfully used molecules comprised of small strands of RNA to shut down the production of destructive proteins generated by the COVID-19 virus. Additionally, the researchers are working to aerosolize the RNA molecules so that they could be incorporated

Technique to regenerate optic nerve offers hope for future glaucoma treatment.
Scientists have used gene therapy to regenerate damaged nerve fibres in the eye, in a discovery that could aid the development of new treatments for glaucoma, one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Axons – nerve fibres – in the adult central nervous system (CNS) do not normally regenerate

Interesting article: In-office gene therapy for wet age-related macular degeneration is coming
Gene therapy is showing promise for one of the most common causes of blindness. Data presented today shows that six patients with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) have, so far, gone at least six months without the need for continued injections to control a disease that typically requires treatment

Excellent article: Blind Boy Sees After Gene Therapy
Things are rapidly advancing. New anti-fibrotic drugs have been developed(and are being studied) which could possibly be used in wet AMD and other retinal conditions to prevent and reverse subretinal scarring. Gene and stem cell therapies are being studied and there are currently treatment trials going

The search for a gene therapy to reverse pulmonary fibrosis associated with ageing.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a potentially lethal disease for which there is currently no cure and that is associated with certain mutations or advanced age. The Telomeres and Telomerase Group at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) had previously developed an effective therapy for

Encouraging Gene Therapy News
The primary headline relates to increased dosage, but also refers to earlier reports which we have previously discussed. "Early three- and six-month data on that first group was reported to be encouraging, with AXO-Lenti-PD being both well tolerated and patients showing better motor function. One year

Focused ultrasound opening brain to previously impossible treatments.
Focused ultrasound opening brain to previously impossible treatments. University of Virginia. While Price, a biomedical engineer, is developing his techniques in the lab, doctors are already using the technology to treat conditions such as Parkinson's tremor. Price marvels at the approach's specificity

My doctor told me to prepare for the ALD gene therapy trial
My doctor told me to prepare for the ALD gene therapy trial, The first is called, the second is amn, I'm looking forward to it. I want to know that if the ABCD1 gene can be expressed normally, it will not cause side effects such as tumor. So what changes will happen to our bodies? The body can metabolize

This is old but relevant. I came across this while looking up something that pjoshea13 had posted last year about ibuprofen and green tea. The link to vitamin C and green tea: https://news.uns.purdue.edu/x/2007b/071113FerruzziTea.html The post pjoshea13 once made about ibuprofen and green tea -- not

CORONA VIRUS / COVID-19/SARS COV-2 And Some Potential Help
This seems like a good time to start a thread discussing the latest developments regarding SARS COV-2 / Corona Virus(CV-19). Given that it seems to move quickly to new areas that were previously unaffected, being as prepared as is reasonably possible seems to make sense, but is there really a good way
