I have received a letter today from my GP informing me that the MHRA have issued a statement cautioning the use of simvastatin with Amlodipine as it has a likelihood of side effects particularly in the form of aching muscles and I thought my muscles where aching from getting out of the armchair

Simvastatin warning
There seem to be a number of articles on the internet from towards the end of last year confirming this.
It seems that the maximum recomended dose of Simvastatin is 20mg if taken with Amlodipine. Alternatively they will switch to one of the other Statins (like Atorvastatin).
Incidentally my surgery switched me to Simvastatin sometime last year from Atorvastatin on cost grounds... However I don't have any problems with it, nor does it clash with any of my other meds. But it's one med that I bear in mind for asking my GP about dropping if I ever get any muscle aches...
I came off statins as my muscles were aching and wasting and touch wood i have been ok since, still get the odd aches and pains in cold damp weather, so i would ask your GP if your colestoral is really high and if not see if you can stop them.....
