Preventative Oophrectomy or not??
Hi ... I have had raised levels of CA125 for the past 18 months, up and down between 38 and 77. I also have family history of OC (my mum who died at the age of 59). I've just seen the Gynae Consultant who has offered to take out my ovaries as a preventative measure. US scans haven't shown much, small

Will this be horrible?
Well, I know this is going to be the day for panic, but I have just read on another forum about menopause, and I had forgotten all about that, I shall go straight into surgical menopause after the op? Or will it be a couple of days? What will it be like? Is it horrible? No more periods, how weird, what

The Journey Begins
It's been a very strange few weeks, no a few months actually. In january 2012 I went to my GP rolling in agony with abdominal pain, he told me he couldn't think what could be there to cause a problem, so took bloods and said go home take some pain killers and get over it. When I rang for blood results

Please help PMRGCAuk raise money for GCA research!
Hi. This forum is free, free, free and always will be. However, PMRGCAuk is run on a shoestring and our shoestring is wearing a bit thin! We desperately need money to help us continue our work. This month, Jennifer from the East Anglia support group and I are doing the Carrots Night Walk around

Going to have an OPEN Unilateral Oopherectomy... what can I expect???
I recently was diagnosed with pelvic congestion, and underwent an embolization of the veins. I am 24, thin, and very healthy. I have a daughter who is two. I have had a loooong history of ovarian cysts (3 required surgery, 5 hospitalizations). So the embolization was done about 8 weeks ago, and needless

Seen by haematologist - no further forward at moment
Hi everyone thanks for your help with preparing for appointment - I was well armed when I saw haematologist today. Not got much further really. Apparently when I was pregnant/having miscarriages (2004)they did 2 tests, but only told me about one. One test positive for lupus anti-coagulant, one negative

Have you had a hysterectomy and did you keep/not keep your ovaries?
Hi ladies, I am in the consultation process of having a hysterectomy. The question is though do I or do I not keep my ovaries? I lean towards them being taken out as I am on zoladex, and stopped hrt due to pains coming back - so in essence if they are taken out and I take a calcium supplement, this

What an amazing week!
Well, on top of the article in the Daily Mail that has caused our phones to practically melt (140 calls since Tuesday), we have got even more excitement to report. Lord Wills, who has taken up the cause of Giant Cell Arteritis and the tragedy of sight loss that it can cause, has managed to get the

Daily Mail features Giant Cell Arteritis
Now, the Daily Mail isn't normally my favourite newspaper, but today it definitely is. The Mail has published a long and really good feature on Giant Cell Arteritis, the tragedy of people who lose their sight because of it not being diagnosed, and the scandal of doctors who don't see what is right in

Hi All I've joined here for two reasons really...one for support and two for advice. I started this torturous(!) regime this afternoon with my teenage son...but I could only run for a minute for the first 3 running sessions. I had no puff!! For the other running sessions, I lasted about 50

Ovary removal
I am 66 years old. I have been monitored for fibroids. This week I went for an ultrasound scan and vaginal scan. The fibroids had shrunk but my right ovary had enlarged. in September the scan showed a cyst on my ovary. The gynaecologist advised me to have my ovaries removed and is making an appointment

I am looking to find out any information from anyone who has experienced removal of ovaries pre menopause?
I ‘m 42 with a history of endometriosis and fibroids and a Mother who died from OC aged 57 (diagnosed at 46). I have just had my annual ovarian screening and am awaiting an appointment with a consultant after another potential fibroid has been found, it’s blocking the view of my left ovary so the sonographer

Any tips for dealing with fatigue associated with surgical menopause?
I seem to be really, really tired most of the time (not even a strong cuppa wakes me up!) and I'm suspecting it's the surgical menopause. (I can't have HRT as my tumours were strongly oestrogen receptive). My gynaecologist gave me a review paper to read from the Royal College of Gynaecologists/Obstetricians
