Had unilateral salpingo oophorectomy thur disch... - My Ovacome
Had unilateral salpingo oophorectomy thur discharged yesterday from hospital
Hi Jo,
Take it easy no stretching no lifting, let housework wait you really need to rest, you could give Ovacome helpline a ring and speak to Ruth Payne (nurse) tel 0845 371 0554 or 0207 299 6650 ...she is very good with advice.... I think it's disgraceful that you've been sent home without advice...sending you my best wishes love x G x
Hi Jo73
Hope you are getting plenty of rest at the moment. You shouldn't really be doing
anything just yet so hope you have someone to help you.I was told no cooking
and bending to open oven door..... .only boil a kettle if its just for yourself as you dont
want to be lifting a heavy kettle. It's really no bending or lifting which just about rules
out everything. After a week at home I ventured out for a two minute walk along our
street and tried to do this everyday. It doesn't sound much but it really takes it out of
you at first. Take care not to get constipated which no doubt you will be after your op.
I took Senna tablets which did help and the ladies on this site also advise eating lots
of pears.....wish i had this advice after my op but didnt find this site until I started chemo.
I don't know if you are working but hopefully you have been advised how long to expect
being off work.....We all take different times to recover so don't try and rush things.........
Hope this is of some help to you.
Take care and remember we are all hear for you.

Well done for getting through this. I am surprised there are still some hospitals who offer no advice ...which one were you treated at?
I was told no .....absolutely NO..... lifting, and to take a rest every afternoon, don't bend down.
Only exercise when you feel up to it. Like Angelina, I went for a walk every day when I felt strong enough. I also went swimming at my local pool after about four weeks I think, but check with your specialist nurse. The leaflet I was given said I could have sex and drive after 6 weeks(!!!!!) Depends on what your priorities are I suppose
You must take things easy though. The op you have had really takes it out of you.
I was allowed back to work, on a phased return basis, after 4 months.
The constipation was the worst part, immediately post-op, so make sure you look at the advice on here about avoiding that.
All the best for your recovery
Love Wendy xx
Hi ther, had self same op last June 2011. recovery was 6 weeks and then I started 6 months of chemo ( taxol/carbo) Best thing to do is check with your surgeon - your own GP won't know much. Keep withyour hospital - and do take it easy!! No lifting, hoovering, pulling etc - I was told to sit down and let grand children sit on my lap - not lift them up!! Hope all goes well for you!
Hi there
Well done on getting through the operation, many of us had little or no information so you are definitely not alone.
There is a really good forum called the "Hysterectomy forum" that gives all sorts of information about what you can and cannot do after the surgery , which is similar to what you have had done. Please don't even think about going back to work for 6 weeks and rest as much as you can. No bending or lifting and that includes putting washing out , hoovering etc etc.Doing too much can cause damage leading to chronic pain , adhesions etc so do take things very easy.
Enjoy the enforced rest and let us all know how you get on.
