Supporting Dad???
My Dad is 65 and for the last 3 years (at least) he has had
Emphysema
. He is a very private man and was once very fit and had a physical job so it's been difficult for him to accept. I would say he has advanced stages as he has been hospitalised recently with Pneumonia and gets every cold going.

Thank you
I have end stage
emphysema
or stage 4 as it is also known. My consultant is in the process of referring me to meet the transplant team here in Newcastle England. I've never really understood or bothered to find out what FEV1 19% so on is. So thank you for all the responses to my post.

Sonar / X rays shows nothing
The strange thing that baffles both of us - neither have shown any signs of lung damage although my readings at the pulmonologist shows that I have
emphysema
. There are no physical signs of
emphysema
. Readings varies from 67% to 81 % in 4 blows.

Does Caffeine hinder or help suffers of COPD/Emphysema
I am 68 and diagnosed with COPD/
Emphysema
12 years ago at which point I immediately stopped smoking. I have struggled to keep on top of the illness and I have weathered many exacerbations and viruses along the way. I have read conflicting reports about the effects of caffeine on this disease.

Was supposed to get chest CT today
One person has
Emphysema
on CT, lower FEV than me, and no SOB! Ahhhhh, the strangeness of it all. Well Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and this time last year I was married and what I thought was good health, though the storm was brewing and I just did not know it then.

Does anyone get sharp, ripping, stinging pain in their lungs that comes and goes?
I have bullous
emphysema
and chronic Atelecasis. I've been having very sharp and ripping stinging pains in my chest that come and go. They can be so sharp that I gasp, grab my chest, and moan. Totally unpredictable and I can't control it.

Does Pilates help?
I was diagnosed with
emphysema
5 years ago, which came as a bit of a shock as I have never smoked. I started doing Pilates twice a week 18 months ago, and was astonished when I had my annual spirometry yesterday to be told that my volumes had increased. Could Pilates have helped?

Lung overinflation
Not to mention I would expect the DLCO to be low if the
emphysema
was bad and that those numbers would coincide more with the air trapping. Of course since I learned of the hyperinflation, my abdomen feels tense and full, but this does not happen overnight.

I need oxygen?
I have recently been diagnosed with
emphysema
but had It a while. Dr wont agree that I need oxygen therapy but I know I do and would benefit from it. Are there any charities that will help me?

That's supposed to be why some smokers get
