I'm not sure, Nannymag, but I expect someone will be along shortly who will be able to explain better. I asked my respiratory nurse what my diagnosis was as I would need to tell the holiday insurance company, and she said "moderate COPD" but I'm not sure of the figures - I will ask her for them tomorrow when I have my next check up.

Hi, welcome.

It seems endless doesn't it. The fact is that a good doctor will ask for sputum samples, send them off for analysis to find which is the correct antibiotic for the particular bacteria you have. Some bugs are very stubborn. If you're not asked for samples then you must ask for sputum to be tested.

For instance I'm alway 'offered' amoxycillin. I absolutely refuse it. It has never once cleared any of my chest infections.

Once (in my less assertive days) I took one antib after another for 4 months until a doctor I'd not seen before put it all right. It took a year to build up my immunity & strength afterwards. Never again .

Copd, presumably mild, was on my medical records 2 years ago but this month spirometry proved I don't have it!!

The right antibiotic is vital.

Good luck to you, let us know how you get on. P

We need more of your numbers from your test, to tell you what stage you are. Looks like moderate, but not sure. Next to the 150 it should say the %. Thats what we need to know.

Your FEV1 is 61% and your FVC is 68% of normal for your age, height & gender.

With COPD an FEV1 of 61% would be classified as Stage 2 (moderate)

However your FEV1/FVC ratio is 71% which is bit low but in the normal range.

This indicates a restrictive rather than an obstructive lung disorder.
