Hi do you mean stage 4 very severe? You don't get extra benefits because of an illness but how it affects you. You might be able to claim PIP (Personal Indepenence Payment) so check on the Govt. site at direct.gov.uk This is a stand alone benefit whether you are working or not. It is not taxed (though might be in the future). I hope this helps. x

I doubt that you're entitled to anything - unless you have a young family? Your Emphysema cannot be that severe if you're able to work full time. Most people at that stage can hardly move without gasping for breath, let alone work at all! If you apply, you will be assessed their own Doctors, so if they say you're entitled - then that's how you will get it. Good luck.

hi smokeyjoe, you could make a claim for some things but if you still work it is often construed that your illness as less effect on you and is not disabling. So you might find it harder to proceed a claim. But often pays to try, so good luck if you do. PIP is the main one, then there are things like blue badges for mobility, maybe help with heating costs, rate rebates due to disability premiums for assessment. BLFs advice line could help you more on this subject or local citizens advice office, maybe even your local council. Benefits are a personal thing based on how your illness effects you and your personal financial status for some things. Hope this helps you .

I don,t wish to be rude but if you can still work full time why would you need to claim benefits?D.

There are many jobs the disabled can do. IT for a start, typing, accounting, in fact anything that is not physically wearing or makes you out of breath.

Good Luck with your claim Smokeyjoe. :)
