Confused about ratios and portion sizes
I have been trying LCHF for 3 weeks now, but I am still confused about ratios of carbs, protein and fat and how many g I should be having. Should I be calorie counting? How do I know if I'm doing it right? I have bought a book with lots of recipes, but can I ave any lunch with any dinner or do I have

Cauliflower £3 each?!
Local greengrocer didn't have any cauliflower, but just as I was leaving his colleague walked in with a box. The price? £3! Apparently the price at market jumped up to £15/box. Lemons have similarly gone from £16 to £25 a box wholesale. I wonder if low-carb panic buyers have created this demand? I imagine

Hi everyone, I mentioned a gluten free diet for my Hashimoto’s to my Endocrinologist who was sceptical. Does anyone have any scientific references I can quote? Also I have pernicious anaemia and have found Martyn Hooper s book on the subject really helpful as is very accessible info . So now I am looking

Today for lunch, I had tuna mixed with hummus, 3 stuffed grape leaves and some chips that had lots of protein in them. It was a very low carb. meal (37 total carbs.). Very good!:-)

90 second keto bread 👍 👍 👍
I've been jonesing for bread and butter for a while. I went low carb early December, and have only had bread once since, on Christmas day. I have been having lucid dreams about eating slice after slice thickly buttered white bloomer doorsteps. The dreams have been nearly erotic. Previously I had pooh-poohed

Tiromel not helping
Hi, I am from the US and I know this is a UK forum, but there seems to be some really good information on here. I’ve been trying to get to the bottom of some health issues that have been plaguing me for the last year. I went on a very strict low carb diet for about a year and a half and felt amazing

Yayyyy! Target reached. 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Well something to cheer me up, today I reached my target of 10st. I was 10st. 10 just before Christmas and back then I couldn't believe i would manage it. But thanks to LCHF and the support of you folks, I've done it. My BMI is 24.7. However, after looking in the mirror, I've decided to keep going

Low Carb virgin seeks advice
We've added low carb to our intermittent fasting as already stated some 3 weeks back. I weighed myself this morning and have lost .3kg. I know PMRpro posted in response to a previous post about the steroid effect and only vaguely understood it. Last night whilst not being able to sleep I used Carb

Is there anything I can do to halt my disease progression?
Is there anything else I can do to halt my disease progression? My current GFR is 86 and I'm just trying to stop this thing before it gets out-of-hand. I currently do not eat refined sugar, gluten, or red meat. I have been sticking to a low sodium diet as well and eat mostly vegetables and fruit. I am

Another reason why hypos may have trouble absorbing nutrients
In the midst of trying to figure out my own situation, I found this article that talks about the small intestine in hypothyroid and hyperthyroid rats. Apparently (not unlike the mechanisms in celiac disease) a hypothyroid state results in shorter and thicker intestinal villi, which are supposed to be

Low Carb Denver 2020
For those not visting dietdoctor.com regulalry you may have missed that they are screening this conference live and following the sessions, the presentations are available to view in one's own time. I am assuming they will be available for one month. Then the presentations will be uploaded progressively

Self isolating
Have been attempting to do this (more, it's our norm for much of the week) in the last week but have failed. Daughter is moving house today and our services were needed on 2 days.. (If she got sick I would go and care for her, always a mum). So, today is Day 1 and I've already gone back on my idea

Feel like giving up
Hi guys, it's been a little over a month that I started a low carb diet but no significant weight loss up to now. I have cheated several times by eating pastries or fries but on the whole I have maintained the low carb diet. Now after one month I simply feel like giving up but I know I will feel worse

Has weight loss improved your thyroid problems?
I've been reading a lot about the connection between hypothyroidism in weight gain and obesity. It's long been believed that hypothyroidism causes/contributes to obesity because of the metabolic effects of same, but there seems to be more research being done that questions that theory and now some researchers

Salt
Apparently last week was Salt Awareness Week, and me being my usual disorganized self, I just got around to writing some observations about that in the LCHF group. Since some of you are here with medical issues like hypertension, I thought it might be of more general interest: https://healthunlocked.com

Salt
Apparently it is (or was, as of yesterday) National Salt Awareness Week, organised by some worthies known as 'Action On Salt' (http://www.actiononsalt.org.uk/), with the hashtag ''#eatlessalt'. If nothing else, the existence of such things probably tells you all you need to know about our unhealthy relationship
