Mom long term ICU trach ventilation, ICU delirium, what can I do to help her emotionally?
Her kidneys failed and she requires
dialysis
. About 2.5 weeks in she got a trach put in and they stopped the sedation. Today she is still on the ventilator and intermittent
dialysis
and has ICU delirium. I think she understands quite a lot, but it comes in waves.

My 72 year old father in law was diagnosed with kidney failure and undergoes
dialysis
every other day. My mother in law googled recently and found information out where she believes he only has 2-3 years left of living.

Preparing for Dialysis
She has had a call this morning from the renal nurse saying we think we shud start preparing you for
dialysis
whilst your still well. I'm a little upset as I thought she'd holds out abit longer. It's so daunting. She's 78 years old. Can anyone offer me some reassurance..😥

Acceptance of doing nothing. An Update
It is a very exciting time despite how rough this transition through
dialysis
has been. I started having some serious abdominal pain that has been very disruptive to my life, but I'm hoping that keeping a steady
dialysis
treatment and some tests can figure out what's going on.

Newly Transplanted with 2nd Kidney!
Newly transplanted with my 2nd kidney just last Monday 2/26, called me in Sunday evening to do
dialysis
and Monday morning at 9 am I was getting a new kidney!! It happened so fast and so unexpected! And they said for my 2nd kidney I'd wait ten years because of my antibody level being at 99!!

Doctor, doctor give me this news: Primary care and CKD
Everyone’s mind jumps right to end-stage renal disease and
dialysis
when kidney disease is mentioned, even among clinicians. By the time a patient needs
dialysis
, pathology has been smoldering, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.

wanting to work when you have lupus
I have lupus which is attacking my kidneys [only mildly I guess as I don't need
dialysis
] I am constantly tired, I have high blood pressure and blood clots, and an ileostomy which gets very noisy and I feel too embarrassed to have a lot of human contact [don't want to have to keep explaining it to everyone

STRESS I KNOW I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT THE STORM BUT MY UNCLE IS NOT WELL
My uncle has some serious health issues his kidneys are not working he is on
dialysis
3 times a week. He was in the hospital for a month. Then you know how you can’t stay there that long and they basically kick you out to a place to help you get stronger, well he did not like it there.

Outlooks
Reading peoples comments on here it seems to me that the medical community in general is not much interested in kidney disease till
dialysis
or transplants; whereas patients would like to begin to avoid those things for as long as possible.

Just joined the group
I am preparing for both
dialysis
and a transplant. Hoping all goes well. I am encouraged to see there are a lot of folks who have had successful transplants.

Immunosuppressants
I would visit with kidney
dialysis
patients. Many were willing to put up with rigors of 3 x a week
dialysis
at a center, rather than a transplant. Many were afraid of after a transplant and what kind of quality of life they would have.

My father isnt waking up from a medically induced coma...scared
he is intubated but has minimal ventilation support and is on
dialysis
. he has been off sedation for 8 days. he has not opened his eyes nor does he respond to verbal commands. he only responds to pain stimuli and touch. his CT scan showed no concerns. they are doing an MRI and an EEG today.
