From dialysis to transplant
Hi there, I’m a 52 yr old female with Polycystic Kidney Disease. I just went through my transplant evaluation about a month ago. My oldest daughter is 29 yrs old and she is a match for me. But I’m literally scared to death. It’s all of a sudden becoming so real. The only experience I’ve had with a kidney transplant was my mother. She had a transplant 30 yrs ago and it was not successful and she was back on dialysis within 3 months. Sadly, she passed away 4 months after her transplant due to a brain aneurysm. It was a terrible experience that haunts me constantly. I try very hard to stay focused and positive for my family, but inside I’m sad and scared. I turn to the internet looking for information because I don’t know anybody that went through a kidney transplant, and I’m so curious to know how to prepare and what to expect afterwards. My transplant surgeon wants to remove my native kidneys during the transplant, and I’m having a hard time finding information on that surgery too. I saw you were willing to share some information and I would so greatly appreciate any advice you can offer me.
