RLS and Lactose?
Hello Everyone, It's been so good to discover this forum and read about everyone's struggle with RLS. I've had RLS since childhood (my parents remember me having to stand up in the car, or pulling over to let me walk around). But until now, it has been manageable to just get up and watch the movie standing

Compulsive spending
Hi guys Can I ask if anyone who treats their rls with dopamine agonists notices an increase in their shopping habits ie overspending for items not needed, I have noticed this for myself but when my family started to notice I realised there was a problem.

Insomnia and Relaxis pad questions?
My sleep problem for the last ten years has been that I can't go to sleep. I can be very tired or sleepy but just can't drop off. Have been treated for restless leg with dopamine agonists with some success. I am now on Horizant (I do suffer neuropathy in left foot) and hydrocodone 2.5 to 5 mg at night

The locus coeruleus story in PD: norepinephrinergic system, Zarow, hypertension, hypotension
This post is prompted by parkie13's description of blood pressure extremes. Is it possible that the BP extremes Mary described are being induced by PD pathology and not by more common causes? Damage to the locus coeruleus (aka ceruleus) often precedes and may exceed damage to the substantia nigra

Two tips to better walking
MUSIC One aspect of Parkinson's is the body's desire to be still, seen in bradykinesia, rigidity and freezing. Music can by pass the pre frontal cortex where the brain is saying 'don't move' and it can get us to move instinctively, passively which stimulates dopamine production from where our body can

The best RLS solution used for the last 300 years
If you search in the NIH or Johns Hopkins Hospital web sites, you can see information about RLS. Below is one thing I found after realizing that the codeine cough syrup I had been prescribed was 100% effective in eliminating RLS overnight. Instead of getting up twice/night I sleep 8 hours without interruption

A Procedure for RLS
Some time ago there was a suggestion that a flow chart of what to do if you think you have RLS was proposed........I felt that this would be a mammoth effort to write initially and then to maintain. However I thought some more and I offer a starting point which is just a simple list of actions in

Positive Preliminary Trial Results: NAC resulted in significantly more dopamine neuron survival. published online 2016 Jun 16
The results of this small, preliminary study demonstrate for the first time a potential direct effect of NAC, N-Acetyl Cysteine, on the dopamine system in PD patients, and this observation may be associated with positive clinical effects (about 12%). Here are a few details published from this earlier

Chronic BOREDOM? Dopaminergic in nature?
Hi, all. Does anybody else here suffer from lack of enthusiasm? Chronic boredom? Lack of motivation? I just cant seem to get excited about anything these days. Dont care to play my music much anymore, something I used to go wild about. Now I barley pick up a guitar or sit down to play the drums and get

Has anyone tried this? I got info on my email saying it's a gadget that emits magnetic frequencies of low intensity in the head which stimulate the natural production of dopamine. Actipulse.com. is this a scam?

Stop Smoking This is my daily update on my decision to stop smoking, and my subsequent experiences. I had smoked for around fifty years. Before my recent decision to stop, I had been resigned to smoking for the rest of my life. The reasoning behind that stems from two bad experiences I suffered

I've defeated my loss of levodopa benefit that happens after eating protein
To start with, an update, I am back on the MP, no Sinemet at least unless I hit another obstacle unforeseen. I hurt myself today eating some delicioooous bbq beef. It was soon after getting my dopamine right and I had been feeling pretty good actually. The beef protein began to rapidly bring me down

Anatomy of a Myth
[*Note: 'Willful dupes' comprise that segment of a given group of people (take the HU PD forum group for an example) who believe ANY hope is better than no hope. They are the segment that is so desperate for some sense of hope that they willingly accept as fact any 'hope' that is dangled before them

My RLS which is relatively mild but worsening-for which I blame the HRT I am taking for osteoporosis-comes and goes. I probably get three weeks on, two weeks off. How does this fit with what we know of the condition being to do with dopamine release? Thank you A

This is for those of us who have sleep problems.
Which is probably a large portion of RLS people. HOWEVER, not all sleep problems are caused by RLS, only exacerbated by RLS. (Case in point - People who do not have RLS also have sleep problems.) For instance, if your brain is low in serotonin, the most important of the brain neurotransmitters
