Thanksgiving and a Question
I thank God for this website every day since I found it. I was at my lowest of low points with RLS this summer. I had to take a leave of absence from my teaching job. I was going through augmentation and withdrawl from requip at the same time.My doctors at Johns Hopkins were not helping. They didnt

Ropinirole withdrawal: is it always agony?
I have PLMD, which developed from RLS some 6 years ago. I've been on Ropinirole for 3 months at a dosage of 2 x 0.25 mg a night. It's just beginning to lose its effect with PLMs occurring at night 1 hour plus after taking the tablets & now an hour or so before the 6-hour half-life is through in the early

All Of Me
All of me.... Why not take all of me.... Are you singing the song too? Forgive my break from formality. Today, I just need to open up. Disability insurance will not cover FND as a viable claim for medical disability/Leave of absence. I need that coverage to protect me on days this condition drives

Does Exercise Actually Increase Dopamine?

Taking iron for RLS; Requip better than Mirapex?
I'm a newer member, but have had RLS for about 30 years. My GP agrees with daily iron supplements that I take with Vitamin C (per information I read on this forum). My ferritin level is 76 and I have learned from this group that it needs to be 100. So I feel like I am making progress to treat the RLS

Grateful for this Forum (continued)
Other info I've learned on this forum, for which I'm grateful: I refused a prescription for a dopamine agonist and tossed out a prescription for Wellbutrin after what I've read on here about augmentation AND other research, which suggested that Wellbutrin can increase insomnia---the very last thing this

Grateful for this Forum
Hello, I haven't posted on here much, mostly read others' comments. I'm grateful to all of you for numerous reasons. Because of what I've learned here, I was able to say "no" to my doctor when she suggested I take a dopamine agonist. Based on your comments, I've apparently spared myself the agony

Found this article on healthy eating forum so thought I would pass it on
This article ("What Happens if You Eat Raw Onions Every Day"), was published originally on the FoodPrevent.com website. The article explains how eating a raw onion a day can help with certain health conditions (cardiovascular health, type 2 Diabetes, lower cancer risks, etc.). Please see below for more

Parkinson’s Disease and Insulin Resistance
Increasing number of studies suggesting that Insulin Resistance negatively impacts dopamine functioning in the brain. Datscan for John Pepper
You could also create a new thread like this one, and direct people to it from brief posts on other thread. This is my DATscan from Toulouse hospital 16 May 2018. Neck and spinal column at the bottom of the picture - so looking at me from behind (above and behind) I'll translate from the french for

Why have I never known of RLS-UK before now?
Well...having had RLS and Period Limb Movement diagnosed in 2000 (following a chance conversation with a friend/colleague who worked in the sleep study dept of a large teaching hospital) although I certainly had symptoms from childhood, I have had UK hospital/ Consultant input since 2000 and from approx

Finally off Mirapex
Finally off the dreaded Dopamine Agonist, Mirapex and I’m suffering like crazy! I don’t even know how much Kratom I’ve taken tonight! I have my ice packs on and they’re not helping. I might as well bite the bullet while I’m sick and suffer through it. I think someone told me about 2 weeks of sheer hell

Boswellia, supplements
About 2 months ago I developed a swollen finger, and generalised pain in my wrists knees and ankles. I also had stiff hands in the morning, which I initially thought was Parkinson's related. Googling in the usual way brought me to the conclusion that I might be suffering from an inflammatory arthritis

New Hope
It looks like we have something positive. "A new therapy that appears to stop Parkinson’s disease “in its tracks” will begin phase-one clinical trials in humans next year. The therapy, developed by researchers at the University of Queensland – and partly under-written by the Michael J Fox Foundation

Hello everyone, I am new here to the Shaw Foundation community. I was recently diagnosed with bipolar 1. I also have panic disorder. I am here for support outside of my therapist, psychiatrist, and doctors. I am on depakote, lorazepam, atarax, and paxil. I just started the depakote today, so fingers

I survived my appointment :)
Hello everyone, I made it through my appointment! There was a slight delay with patients, so I was there longer than expected. I remained calm and didn't "freak out" once! I had built it up in my head that it was going to be horrible and scary, and that was worse than the real thing. For those of you

Question for nerds
I recently read an article in the NY Times about the science of placebo. (No, this is not an attempt to treat RLS with a placebo.) There is some very interesting research being done these days but my interest is not in the placebo effect, it is in an enzyme called COMT that has a role to play in the

Why I want to research active microbiome therapies for Parkinsons
Why I think the microbiome is key (Stick with it – links to poo coming up…) Having been diagnosed with PD, and offered regular Sinemet therapy, I resolved to look for alternatives and hope for a cure. Dopamine – whilst central to PD and effectively the definition of the disease, appears to be only part
