Finding a way through all these stupid rules
I have had to claim carers allowance as my daughters main
carer
, hence then I get income
support
as well. Did online form yesterday for CA, and telephone for income support. Went to interview today, and the lady I saw, so lovely, was in shock.

Hello I'm new to this group. My father has just recently been diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer. He had an endoscopy last week, which showed up a cancerous tumour. My father is in his 80's, and has osteoporosis quite badly. Does anyone here know what treatments may be offered to him, or

Mum
Hi, worst news I am afraid to say, mum is far too poorly for any form of treatment and chemo is not an option for her. She is going to have palliative care only. She is relatively comfortable and is just coming to terms having only been told today. All the family flying over tomorrow to be with mum and

Does anyone have experience of home care packages?
My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 years ago and last week we found out that it has spread to her brain and were told that she only has months, possibly weeks left. She's been in a hospice for the past week to stabilise her and get her medication right. The doctors have said that she can now either

Hi all - hope you are all as well as can be! My asthma has been deteriorating at a fair rate of knots recently, and affecting everything I do - I have been using a wheelchair at times, and am considering applying for a Blue Badge (when I go home to Devon I drive, but not in London!). My attacks are

Are we afraid to talk about death and dying?
I thought it would be interesting to see people's views on death and dying, and are we as a nation scared to talk about it? Talking about this subject can be difficult and no one likes to think of their own mortality. There are benefits to this though, like being able to plan what type of care you

Hope even when diagnosed stage 4
I was diagnosed with stage 4 with lung spread following an episode of pleural effusion 4 years and a Ca125 of over 6000. To cut a long story short I was given a terminal diagnosis with palliative care only. Lucky for me I saw a wonderful oncologist who commenced taxol and carboplatin chemo. I responded

Channel 4 programme re: palliative care.
Are you looking after an elderly relative or someone with a terminal illness? Do you worry about the care they’re getting in hospital or at home? Channel 4 is making a programme about care for the elderly and terminally ill. If you are a friend, relative or carer of someone who is unwell or a patient

Miss You
The last week has been agony; yesterday there was a kind of relief, but a very painful relief. Things have been difficult since the beginning of November when I took Sasha to the local vet and he uttered those fateful words “it’s a cancerous tumour”. At this point I still felt hopeful, not so long ago

Vitamins, minerals and other self help ideas.
Hi, I have been prescribed Vit D and calcium by the hospital (as RA is a risk factor for osteoporosis.) And suddenly my nails are strong and no longer flaking! I also take fish oil capsules (as recommended by research done by ARUK), and my eyes are less dry. And I have started to take Vit B complex
