Another Hurdle to Get Over
Tomorrow, B. leaves the Palliative Care Unit at the hospital and goes into a nursing home. It is nearer home and seems to be very nice. I took my sister in law, who used to be a care home inspector, with me when I visited it. She thought it was OK. I feel awful that B . is not coming home, but he needs

Risky side effects of Benepali?
Hi all. I was diagnosed with RA last January, with my hands and wrists being badly affected. I have had to take early retirement from work ( I was a nurse), as my hands and fingers just don't work well enough any more. I am, therefore, going through the horrors of being treated like some sort of fraud

Palliative Care, (Continued).
CHC does not seem to exist in Sheffield. Apparently, according to two consultants from different hospitals, the most we are likely to get is what has been promised. That is four short, calls to provide B. with peg feeding and medication. Meanwhile, he is still in P.C. and the consultant feels that as

Palliative and Hospice Care
Recently herb_8789 mentioned to me that he has not seen a lot of information here about Palliative Care (or by extension, Hospice Care). I agree. My impression, so far, has been that many Urologists, Radiologists, Oncologists, and Prostate Cancer Specialists may spend lots and lots of time and

Carrier question
I am doing residency in internal medicine. Just completed first year. 2 years remaining. We have to decide our future speciality by now. My passion was cardiology and critical care. But I do a lot of mistakes; my seniors told me to do palliative care. Keeping in view there difficulties I would like to

Palliative Care
Hello All. B went into hospital 9 days ago with groin pain. After several scans and lack of peg feeding for 33 hours, they decided not to operate on the two hernias that they had found. ( Our doctor had already found them by hand examination, 50 hours before they found them and after they did two scans

CHC Fast track - not so fast...
Hi all, my dad is STILL in hospital, 9 weeks after being admitted through care home neglect. He's been medically fit for discharge for 3 weeks now, minor hiccup since then, my mum had a small heart attack, but she's ok now, out and at home and ready to have him home. So-called 'Palliative Care' is not all it's cracked up to be.
Morphine, Fentanyl, Ordine, Endone, and Panadol had absolutely no effect in reducing the pain of a tooth extraction which had me in a hospital bed for a week. The morphine dosages were usually 10mg, but on a couple of occasions it was 20mg ~ with zero effect. I have a few months to live as I have leukaemia

Palliative care
Hi all. Am I the only one under palliative care here? I think I'm going to go mad. It's on my mind since yesterday when I met with the team. Why do they want me to go see Milford , ( hospice ) Not sleeping again my mind is racing.

Getting and Keeping CHC

UK National Council for Palliative Care Merges with Hospice UK
Financial pressures appear to have forced the merger of two great UK organisations at the forefront of emergency, critical and advance care planning. The National Council for Palliative Care, which has been a keen advocate of MyDirective's approach, has announced that it has agreed a merger with Hospice
