Levadopa is a chemical which occurs naturally in some foods and can be made synthetically. It is identical in both forms. C9H11NO4

Aspirin doesn't cease to be a drug for being derived from wilkow bark, ditto marijuana, cocaine, heroin...

Their difference is that synthetic levodopa gives side effects, but natural does not.

That must by definition be wrong. They are identical. Absolutely the same thing. C9H11NO4.

Side effects of levadopa will be the same for the chemical from a natural source as a synthetic one.

Any differences in experienced side effects will be other things, like the packers in the tablets, other plant substances in MP, or expectation. And of course other substances in the mix like carbidopa or benserazide, since synthetic levadopa is primarily available only in combination with a decarboxylase inhibitor

The effective dosages may also be different, and more levadopa delivered to the brain may cause more levadopa side effect.

I like to call it medication. The word "drugs " has come to mean something bad for you , even thou we still have drug stores and pharmacists running them. Why do you think getting Levodopa in random doses from vegetables is any better than having it in controlled strengths and quantity ? The medication is not fake Levodopa, its the real thing, and someday you will thank God for it, I do every day.

To be fair I can think of 3 legitimate reasons for considering MP

1) Maybe the other substances in the plant help with digestion, or other aspects. The ascorbic acid in an orange is chemically identical to that in a tablet, but you get something more with orange juice (this clearly does not apply to MP derived "100% levadopa"!!!)

2) It is available without a prescription

3) It is possible to get smaller doses. I figure one of the MP capsules I have a pot of, is about the equivalent of 1/5 of a Sinemet 12.5/50 (mainly due to the carbidopa effect -so a bit hit and miss). So I can evaluate the effect of a small dose using MP.
