Alopecia Areata 1 week in...
Hi all, I have just found out within the last week that I have
alopecia
areata. It started with a trip to the hairdressers where she noticed a couple of patches. I made a doctors appointment the next day and he confirmed it was
alopecia
, although I am still to have a blood test to check my thyroid.

venous blood draws vs finger stick
I was in process of changing Primary Care Docs. That included switching to a different clinic for INR/PT checks. They sent a letter saying they would not offer finger prick tests and insisted that I would need venous blood draws. I am pretty sure this was shown in the group to be a false assumption

Frustration with health and PA diagnosis.
I also suffer with
alopecia
areata ( since the age of 2). I am concerned my doctor wont take my blood test results seriously in spite of previously low b12 levels and testing positive for parietal cell antibodies.

Getting tested and dumb doctors
And as for my hair he said that i had generilised thinning (well duh) and after i asked him what it could mean (i dont think he was actually going to tell me) he mumbled something about androgenetic
alopecia
and genetic hair loss....which are the same thing!

What is the amount of biotin likely to affect thyroid blood tests?
Hi everyone, I had planned to do a Medichecks blood test early next week, Monday or Tuesday, but have only just remembered the advice given to stop biotin 4/5 days before the test. I take a multivitamin containing 30mcg biotin. Is this enough to adversely affect the results (TSH, FT4 and FT3)? Obviously

Scientific papers linking low T3 to hair loss?
Hi, does anyone have any references for scientific papers linking hair loss to thyroid issues? Or maybe related matters? (i.e. linking hair loss to low vitamins which are in turn affected by low thyroid hormone levels) Thanks!

Hair thinned out on temples and frontal lob
Having gone to docs again (who don't really have no knowledge on hair loss), they referred me to have biopsy on my scalp, and when the results came back said I had a degree of 'scarring' due to traction
alopecia
! I also had bloods and my iron was low!
