Watch and wait
I finally got the diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis a few weeks ago after numerous tests, scans and liver biopsy. The liver consultant was keen to start me on steroids and immunosupprants but as I've previously had issues with steroids I wasn't keen. He arranged for me to see a specialist pharmacist

Hello! My name is, I will go by my nick name (Jo Jo)! Hope everyone here is doing well (or as I can imagine at times, as good as expected)... I am asking for support for myself. My Aunt Svetlana is just about the most bravest & strongest person I know. She had Breast Cancer about 12 years and was

Going for my autoimmune hepatitis appointment this week after a 2yr wait
I’d put the post above up 2 year ago, can anyone give me advice on questions to ask at this initial appointment with the hepatologist this week please. I’d positive antibodies for autoimmune hepatitis and elevated liver enzymes. Many thanks 🎈

Just had a MRE
Just an update....I had a fibroscan several months ago, just after I was diagnosed with PBC, that showed stage 2-3 fibrosis. It was a real shocker considering I feel good, my labs were not terrible, and I appeared to be in good health. My hepatologist was also a bit surprised at the results so I was

Anyone w/ Hashimoto's using Myo-inositol plus selenium?
Saw this recent study in re using MI and Selenium to treat Hashimoto's. https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/051-059-Myo-inositol-and-selenium-restore-euthyroid-state.pdf If so, how is it working for you? The MI I have is only 500 mg per capsule, and the study used 600 mg. It seems

Autoimmune hepatitis
I finally got the confirmed diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis today. It's not a shock as I have previously had at least one autoimmune disease and I don't drink. Unfortunately the hepatologist I saw in early Dec has now left my local hospital so I'll probably be referred to Manchester royal hospital.

Giving cpr effectively with asthma?
CPR with asthma. I’ve searched and found lots of advice for cpr to a patient with asthma. I’m a sports coach with recently diagnosed asthma and first aid trained but not yet fully managed and my concern is that I might not be able to effectively give cpr. Is it possible to administer cpr with reduced

New research on PBC and light therapy
I was recently at my GI appointment and was telling her that due to my low mood and irritability, I'd started back on my light therapy. I have a litebook, which is a small portable device you sit beside you in the morning for 20 minutes while read or watch TV. Of note, it's also good for jet lag. Anyway

Is there anyone that has been diagnosed with Takayasu Arteritis?
Hi Everyone it would be great to hear of anyone that is suffering from Takayasu Arteritis. (Inflammation of the large vessels) I was diagnosed in summer 2017. It's very rare apparently! My immune system is attacking the large vessels. I take 20mg Methotrexate a week, I'm currently on 7mg Prednisone (

AF and the flu jab
Could anyone tell me if your are entitled to the free flu jab if you have AF, the reason I ask was the doctors said yes but when I went to have it they said it wasn't on their list and as it was not written on my notes by the doctor they could not give it to me. Hair loss treatments
Hi everyone! I’m new. I can’t believe I’ve only just found Verity and this forum! I recently got diagnosed although I suspected it for a long time as I have acne, body hair, and most recently I’ve noticed hair loss too. It’s all very depressing but I recently found hope by reading that Spironalactone

Advice on hair loss due to methotrexate
Hello all, just wondering if anyone has some advice on how best to treat the hair loss that comes as a side effect of methotrexate? I’m currently on 25mg and expect it will go up due to it having no positive affect on my arthritis, but unfortunately causing hair loss, nauseousness and headaches! I’m

More first aid - heart attack vs cardiac arrest
My post yesterday regarding first aid for cardiac arrest highlighted another common misunderstanding - the difference between heart attack and cardiac arrest. This BHF graphic makes it pretty clear, thought it might be worth sharing.

CPR/Defibrillator first aid for cardiac arrest
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2z5bjrvYl8 This BBC Three video popped up in my Twitter feed this morning (courtesy of BHF) and I thought some of you might be interested in it. It's a really good public information film, I think, showing what to do if you are present when someone has a cardiac arrest
