We haven’t rolled our collective and virtual yoga mat since spring this year. At that time, the replies to the monthly post seemed to have become sparser and sparser. And as I was doing quite a bit of non-yoga stretching and targeted strengthening, all connected to my rowing and running, for me, Yoga had to also take a backseat.
However, I miss it, and I also realised that many of us who came to Yoga through these forums and who have enjoyed engaging with this community in the past are continuing to do a regular Yoga practice, as evident through many comments on our other running forums and Strava. Additionally, being aware we get ca 200-300 new members every month, we’re missing a great opportunity to introduce a new group of workout buddies to the delights of daily short yoga practice, as so brilliantly provided for free by Yoga with Adriene.
We also miss the opportunity to invite our new members to the collective and virtual yoga mat. So even though I might only pop in the one day or the other, I thought I’d roll out our virtual yoga mat to ensure a welcoming space every month where we can virtually be together whilst practising apart.
SO WELCOME TO ANY NEW MEMBERS WANTING TO TRY DAILY YOGA! You are in the right place!
Yoga with Adriene has just dropped the daily practice follow-along video sessions for August, under the heading BEGIN!
I’ve not received the email yet, but the calendar looks great, with loads of shorter 10min to 20min sessions. So it’s a great one to get started with a daily practice.
Let us know below how you find it!
YWA AUGUST’s BEGIN DAILY CALENDAR. Here are our YWA LINKS:
And if you are just joining us, big WELCOME to you and any new Virtual Workout Buddies! The daily practice of the YWA calendar is perfect for getting started with Yoga.
And feel free to - as Adriene says - “find what feels good”, meaning if your knees feel too sensitive, amend that Child’s Pose. And if you find full planks are the stuff of nightmares, rather do half planks than full ones. Do whatever feels right to get the maximum enjoyment from these daily sessions. And definitely get creative with props.
Here is a hopefully helpful post about YOGA props.
★ Here was my initial large collection of props, many of which I do not need anymore, but I certainly did in the beginning: healthunlocked.com/strength...
★ And if you want to see what a month’s Virtual Workout Room looks like, here is the one for April ‘21 :
This looks brilliant! I’ve dropped my yoga as things have been a bit busy so this will be a great way to pick it back up. I’ve done a couple of other YWA month long things and loved them.
Fabulous! I’m tempted to say I’ll try it daily, but realistically I’ll be only popping in on some days. When to do them is also a huge conundrum, specifically on running days. But let’s post by reply here, when we do them!! 😍🤩💪🧘🏻♀️🧘🏽🧘🏼♂️
I was just thinking yesterday that I needed to get back to some yoga! I've been trying the JD 30 day challenge, but it's not really suiting me or my body, so this is perfect timing :)Yoga here we come! 🧘

“Begin”…well I can’t ignore Adriene when she puts out an invite like that! Sounds like it’s time for me to begin again…liking the fact that there’s none over 30 minutes…and plenty that are shorter!🧘🏻♀️🧘🏻♀️🧘🏻♀️

Yeah, that tempted me too… and I now have a “date” with hubby to get up early and do daily yoga at 7am together ! 😳🥱So I can’t back out now! 🫣
I’ll use that session on run-days as a warm-up. That’s the plan anyway.
Day 1 has gone, so just checking in with everyone to ask if you have managed to dust off those yoga bricks and roll out the yoga mat? And if you haven’t, day 2 beckons with a short 15 min session!
I’ve finally got started! I did the first one this morning. More sitting and breathing than ai’d thought. Holding a three legged dog was tougher than I remember-it has been a while and I’m on my first rest day this week so maybe that’s why. Glad to be back on the mat.
Day 3 was more intense than day 1 or day 2. Ufff. And my run afterwards was just as hard! Not sure if it was the muggy-ness or me not drinking enough water, but both yoga and running was so, so hard!
Running is so hard at the moment. Yesterday’s run was a recovery run (longer than usual-covered 7.5km in the 45minutes) and I was totally dripping with sweat despite only having been out of breath on a steep hill. I can’t wait for this humidity to clear. Luckily I’ve got a small fan for yoga so indoors isn’t so bad but it’s such a slog doing what should be lovely runs.
Yes, my next run is Friday and by the looks of the weather, it should be nice, cool and possibly sunny! And I’ll make sure I’ll drink that large glass of water on waking. It might have made also a huge difference to how I felt on the run!
Great about yoga! Yes, I’m now four days in and my knees are reconnecting with their responsibilities in these workouts! 🤣🤣👏👏🥱
Love that about your knees!! I was surprised how out of shape I felt with yoga. I’m loads fitter from all the running but that’s definitely come at the expense of some strength and flexibility. This is just what I need.
Day 4 : we’re getting into the flow! Knees are getting used to being on the ground, child’s pose feels more comfortable than day 1, but my lunges are still skyscrapers compared to hubbies’ low lunges.
But I do like this session, which really gets into a flow from mountains to up-dogs to lunges to down dogs.
24 minutes, but as a reward, tomorrow’s is 11 minutes!
Hello all yogis past and future! I just had a look at April’s 2021 collective mat (RENEW healthunlocked.com/strength... ) and boy was that interesting, what we all where up to! So here at BEGIN (August 2022) I’m wondering if many of us yogis from RENEW are still regularly managing to fit in a daily yoga practice? I see some familiar names, and also some present yogis! Hia LottieMW ! So waving 👋 “hi” from our present mat to the yogis of our past mat, to H4CS cheekychipmunks SassyF limu_mu ZuluBravo Cowladyrunning annaruns alpacagirl Lizcanrun TailChaser Jiveblue
Hello CBDB 👋! I’ve slipped off the yoga mat a bit I’m afraid. Not enough minutes in the day with the marathon training. However, some of my stretching and strength & conditioning has some yoga in it (pigeons, pretzels, planks, downward dogs) and I will go back to it and Adrienne once this madness is over!!
That sounds intense! I got to look up what a pretzel is! I just ate them, German Bretzels are awesome! 🤣👍🏽💪
Sounds like you’ve got your Strength and Flexibility workouts all sorted out for your marathon plan! Brill!
(And there’s always the January 30-day yoga journey, which generally has an amazing gravitational pull and which generally gets us all back to the mat!)
I much prefer eating them to doing them CBDB! They aren’t my faves but needs must. Body currently suffering from yesterday’s S&C so light duties today before tomorrow’s LSR
Yes, I need to do the 2022 30 dayer! Never finished it, life and back spasms got in the way in January. It’s been quite a year so far!
Hi CBDB! I haven’t been good at sticking to the daily calendar recently, but I do YWA as often as I can, plus a weekly hour long class at the gym. Love my yoga, and it’ll always be part of my routine when time allows. I took my mat on holiday and did a practice most days. 🙏🏻
Oh, that’s nice! Holiday yoga! I’ve not done that yet! And a weekly yoga hour sounds like good fun. That’s so nice to hear! Thanks for popping in! 🙏👏💪🧘🏼♂️
Hi CBDB. I fell off the yoga wagon around about Jan 31st I think! But I do love morning yoga so this post and this calendar tempted me back in. I've managed 6 of the 7 sessions this week, so very happy with that. It's really nice to be back! Here's to a great second week everyone xxx

Nice! Yes the last 2 morning sessions were really relaxing. The one before, we had trouble keeping up! 🤣🤣 Nice! It is so nice to have you here in our mat! You might be the yogi with the longest yoga experience! 👍🏽💪🧘🏼♂️
Oh no, not me CBDB. cheekychipmunks definitely has more experience than me, maybe others too. Having said that, I did used to do yoga 30+ years ago ..... but gave up about 30 years ago!!!
CBDBAdministratorGraduate Gold in reply to linda9389
🤣🤣👍🏽👏 oh yes, of course! @cheepychipmunks yogi! But your 30+ history of yoga is also impressive. Even if there were some gaps inbetween.
Day 9-10 Late workout report! “Hands Free Yoga” was great, as was “A little goes a long way”. I missed out on day 11, which represents a first day off from a daily yoga practice. (Somehow I’m glad a broke the streak. I want to do daily yoga because of the yoga, not because of the streak. And if I need to miss out the one or other day, that’s ok, I think!) 😀👍🏽🧘🏻
Day 14 Keep Cool with this Keep-Calm practice, originally meant for bedtime but it worked for hubby and me calming the body to cool down after a morning in the sun! 👍🏽🧘🏻
