Day 4 of 30 day yoga challenge

SueAppleRun profile image
49 Replies

We had a bit of a break due to work and garmin buying/ setting up and learning to use

After our run this morning and time to let breakfast digest we decided to move on to day 4

It wasn’t too hard and certainly works different parts to running

How are all the other challengers getting on?

Planning on doing this with my partner when I get back to NZ, she’s had a hip replacement and is nervous about running but has done yoga in the past and is very keen to give this a go together so I am very much looking forward to it 😊

Well done for coming back to it. I'm really enjoying it - well most of it anyway 😍 (I did manage to topple over one day this week 🙄). I'm most happy when I can feel all my running tightness stretching out, but I do like the strengthening bit too, especially my arms and shoulders which tend to get forgotten. Still on track with day 10 completed after parkrun this morning 👍

Well done, i’m off this week so it will be every day and run alternate days so hopefully get the habit a bit better

I LOVE the 30 day YWA plan. I’ve enjoyed it so much, started on 2 Jan and have been doing them daily. I have even done some extra sessions from the YWA YouTube channel which has 7 minute yoga sessions for runners! I love that they are short and snappy sessions and easy to incorporate into my day. Really pleased and noticing results already, body feels more tended to and cared for 🙂

That’s it totally, tended to and cared for,

I find it interesting how people have different times of day they prefer for yoga. I’ve always enjoyed yoga at the end of the day in a dark room with a candle burning close by, its ever so peaceful. I’ve tried to do yoga in the morning but I don’t have any energy at that time and My form is sloppy! I think because my yoga classes used to be evening sessions it’s just ingrained in me now that yoga is an evening activity

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRun in reply toJaoJao

I have enjoyed the evening sessions best, today we did it during the day because son is coming to visit and there isn’t room for 3 of us to do it in our sitting room, your evening sessions sound lovely

what a fab idea to do it in a dark room with a candle, I am definitely going to try this tonight :-) - maybe it will get me into a better yoga routine

How did you find it in a dark room with a candle?

Have managed so far to do it daily. Day 6 was hard - I don't think I have any abs! Today's stretch - right ankle over left and bend and then left over right etc - my goodness it was sore but felt great afterwards. I'm really enjoying it. Managing to do it alongside my running - W9R2 tomorrow - yikes!

I've just done this practice, did it hurt your calves? Bit worried that I did it wrong!

JaoJao profile image
JaoJao in reply tosunshinefish

No you didn’t. See above. Keep at it x

sunshinefish in reply toJaoJao

Thank you! It sounded like it should have been felt in your hips but I may have heard/understood that wrongly.

I know my hammier/calves are tight to begin with :(

JaoJao profile image
JaoJao in reply tosunshinefish

We are trying and that’s good for now, let’s be patient with our bodies and enjoy the movements. I think the cross ankles will feature again in this series so we’ll have ample time to get it right again.

I’m going off to do a couple sessions now, I’ll do the yoga for sore legs session and then Day 11 straight after 🙂🙂

Enjoy today’s session everyone

You could be right. I haven't come across it before.

Enjoy your session, I will check it out later so I know what time to get up in the morning to do it before work!

I sometimes wonder if I've got it quite right but I think your body will tell you. When that position felt really sore I just backed off a bit. I'll do it again probably today as she said it's great for runners - I'm just stiff so I know I need to try and ease myself into some of these moves. I am enjoying it though and I do feel it's doing my body good. I'm going to try and keep at it when the 30 days are up. How about you?

JaoJao profile image
JaoJao in reply to59er

Oh yes I want to continue beyond 30 days too as it’s reconnected me with yoga after many years. Also this Saturday my parkrun performance was very pleasing and the yoga sessions look like they are paying off in dividends.

There are other 30 day plans available on the YWA you tube library and there are also stand alone sessions too targeting different areas, you could go the whole year doing a different yoga session with no repeats.

I will have a better idea at the end of January how I will move forward into the coming months and look forward to hearing everyone else’s plans too. We are in it together

Haven't got to the park run stage yet! That's where I'm heading though 🤞

JaoJao profile image
JaoJao in reply to59er

You will enjoy it, why not go to one this coming Saturday, it’s so fun, you’ll never look back!

sunshinefish profile image
sunshinefish in reply to59er

It's my first series, and I am enjoying it lots. I normally have a list of 30 which I do on a random rotation, which is good, but there are trends such as twists, and flows which I like so are well represented in my practices, and other areas not so well represented, so I like the idea of a series that will make me balanced, if that makes sense!

I will keep it up after this series, and if it continues as it is, probably look into doing another one of her series. As long as there's not too many day 6s!

JaoJao profile image
JaoJao in reply to59er

Those stretches are really good for runners, they just feel tight because we’re working on them for the first time, they will get easier with practise. One leg is always easier than the other one too.

59er in reply toJaoJao

I'm going to try this again today. Hopefully it'll be a little easier.

I was supposed to run yesterday but felt quite tired so W9R2 today then my yoga. I think the yoga is great too. I've never got beyond day 6 on her other 30 day plans so I'm feeling pretty good about it. As she says 'you've got this!' 😂

Well done for getting back to it and pleased to hear you made your Garmin decision, hope you're enjoying it.

I started the 30 day challenge last Sunday and did session 4 last night, session 5 planned for tomorrow evening. Absolutely love it and how it makes me feel! Would love to do a session a day but don't have the time at the moment to do both run and yoga in a day so just doing on non-run days. I am also an evening person. My body feels more capable at that time of day and it really helps me to unwind at the end of the day

I’m loving it glad you are too it’s hard to fit it all in though

Just done day 10 here. After longer sessions 18 minutes felt too short so I added a 5 min session to it. I've never done a series before but a bit of what I fancy from her previous videos. Am liking the more "spiritual?" breathing side which I am getting from doing a whole series in order

JaoJao profile image
JaoJao in reply tosunshinefish

18 mins did feel very short so I added the 7 minutes runners yoga at the end of mine last night, then It felt more of a workout. It’s pretty good that there are variations in timings and also strenuous levels per session so after this 30

Days is over you can pick and choose what works beyond 30 Days if it becomes a habit, hopefully it does.

The 7 minute runners sessions are all very good!

sunshinefish profile image
sunshinefish in reply toJaoJao

Thanks JaoJao, I will have to look these up. :)

I've been doing daily yoga since Sept, but not come across these, just a 30 min running yoga one. A 7min one would be nice tagged onto the end of a run too!

Happy New Year, Willow and Sola. I’m still half tied to the running IC after falling way back in October and then a series of colds and infections that ignited my asthma. I’ve only run twice this year but I’m doing the yoga challenge. Day 10 completed and loving it.

I'm loving it! I was glad Day 10 was quite short cos I only just managed to squeeze it in yesterday.

I really liked the forward bend with feet crossed. When I feel too much pressure on my hamstrings in a pose like that I just bend my knees a bit. Don't want to risk too much soreness later!

I've just had a peek at Day 11 and it looks fab!

Have fun everyone! xxx

Thanks. I did yoga many years ago! I do pilates once a week when I can.... However I'm very stiff today!! I think because yesterday I took my time and really concentrated in it.

I just started the 30 day challenge yesterday and did day 2 today. So far so good. I’ve gone to yoga classes very occasionally, a couple tines a year. Hopefully, I ‘ll be more consistent with following this program. I’m feeling a bit sore the next day but quite relaxed right afterwards.

How are you getting on with your Garmin? Which model was it? Mine should arrive this week 🙂

Nearly at the end of the yoga plan too, feels amazing to get this far 👍

Hi JaoJao, i love the garmin but have been sick since a few days after i got it, my steps are very low, but it nicely tracks the walks we have started and i don’t regret it at all,

Day 4 was as far as we got with the yoga but i have all the emails so once this flu has finally gone we will start again,

I have vivoactive 4s which sits nicely on my wrist, some of the others are a bit big, i downloaded some music too so when we have been out i leave my phone at home although that means no photos

I hope you love yours as much which one are you getting?

Not what you're looking for?
