Half way through already: finding space and peace 🧘‍♀️

So today was day 15 of the 30 day yoga challenge. I'm finding no problem with motivation for doing this challenge. Loving it and how it makes me feel. Definitely going to repeat it once I get to the end. Hope anyone else who's trying it is as enjoying it as much as I am 🙂

If only I could find the same motivation for strength work. I'm begrudgingly putting one day a week on my plan but I just can't find the love for it ... any inspiration would be gratefully received 😎

I am trying to approach it like my runs... just roll out of bed and do it! Working better for me and paying off too!

Is that the strength work you're doing first thing? That's very impressive if so

Yes Strength & Flex! I really struggled to motivate myself to do it. Decided to make a plan to do it on non run days Tues & Friday. I still don’t enjoy it but just roll out of bed, do it and shower. The routine helps it to become habit!

Sounds good. I'm doing a 20 min foot routine first thing. By the time that's done the dog's fed up of waiting! Or so I keep telling myself. Just 2 weeks of work left before my winter break. Maybe that would be a good time for me to try out an approach like that. Well done you though!

I read your posts but haven't looked into the plan. But I will because I love her yoga and got fed up with the running yoga I've been doing. Thank you for sharing

The variety is fun. Some of it is repeated, but I like that because it means I'm familiar with part of it and can concentrate on what I'm doing then rather than how I'm supposed to be doing it 😍

Brilliant. She’s so good at guiding you through everything.

You are doing brilliantly Linda, can you feel the difference since you have been doing all your cycling and yoga... more flexible, less aches and pains?

You are a great role model.🧘‍♀️

I did those foot exercises this evening as you suggested and my foot feels good!

😊xx

That's really good to hear! Try to do them every day for a while if the aren't causing any pain. I literally do the whole routine in the kitchen while the kettle boils and I make my cup of tea - then drink it during the sested ones 😀

Yes, I really can feel a difference from the yoga - and it feels really good 🙂

Sounds great Linda! I haven't been joining you for the 30 day challenge but I have managed some yoga almost everyday since the beginning of this month.

What sort of strength work are you doing? I'm trying to get back to doing kettlebells at least once a week but I've also been doing some of Adriene's videos like Upper Body, Core and Arms and Abs. I'm a big fan of the idea of mastering your own bodyweight and yoga definitely contains plenty of that! x

I noticed all your yoga 🙂. It's a nice thing to fit into the day isn't it. I do very little strength. Literally I manage one session a week. It's a Ben Parkes routine I found online early this year. I'll look for a link. I add one set of arm lifts with small handweights. I do that routine cos its easy to remember and none of the exercises get my lower back. But it's boring and I don't work all that hard at it. Hangs head in shame!

Here's a link to the Ben Parkes routine

Thanks for that - looks pretty comprehensive. Personally I prefer follow along videos as I find it hard to get motivated otherwise.

A lot of those exercises are in Adriene's more "workout" style videos. I did one the other day with loads of squats in - can't for the life of me remember what it was called though I'm afraid! Have you tried any of them? There's one for Abs and Arms that makes me work 💪🤣

I'm the same. Prefer a 'live' workout video. I haven't tried any of Adriene's ones. If you come across any you think are good, maybe you could post some links on this forum. I suspect lots of people prefer a workout video to a list of exercises - that's partly why I settled with the Ben Parkes routine - just 6 exercises, with a predetermined number of sets and reps, easy to remember 😀

Great idea! I'll make a list of the best of Adriene's as I work through them. Like all her videos they are generally very inclusive and give modifications. She also very keen on moving mindfully rather than just banging out reps 😊

Sounds brilliant! I may incorporate strength on a regular basis yet 🤣

I too am LOVING Adriene’s 30 days of yoga, but must confess I am not managing consecutive days, which I suppose means I am not doing the challenge! I did 5 days in a row last week though. You are doing fantastically well on it! 👏👏👏

But, funny you should mention strength work, as that’s kind of what has been getting in the way of the yoga challenge - I have to do 3 sessions of strength work a week, physio’s orders! And I am now back to running 2-3 times a week, so hard to fit it all in. I find the strength training so utterly boring - but I am sticking to it religiously. 😁 I do two of the sessions at the gym and one at home. The only way I can get through it without dying of boredom is to listen to podcasts as I work through the routines 😂. I have just had so many niggles and injuries this year and know the only way I can break the cycle is to get strong - that keeps me motivated. I hate not being able to run. 🙁 But I feel your pain - it is hard to get motivated. I have been listening to a funny podcast called “Running is BS” whilst strength training and it keeps me very amused!

You're doing so well with your strength work, you deserve to be niggle free for the next ten years at least! Haven't heard of that podcast, will take a look though 👍

I put it in the diary and do it before I get dressed then it’s done and I can get on with the day. I also use podcasts of strength training to keep me going otherwise I get bored. Mind you I do start swearing sometime at the coach when they say smile! 😂

That may work for me when I finish work for thw winter in a couple of weeks time - I'm going to give it a whirl. I haven't thought of podcasts as a source for strength workouts. I like the aound of that though. Do you have any recommendations?

The NHS strength and flex I’ve used and I also use one from Weight Watchers which is on their app if you are a member.

You can use yoga postures that work strength. ☺️🙌🏿

Thanks - I think that may be preferable for me than the huffing and puffing kind of strength work 😍

Any postures where you are using your bodyweight will build strength ☺️
