Here’s our Fortnightly S&F catch-up, just checking in with everyone, seeing how your workouts are going. And particularly asking the question of how do you motivate yourself?
Any tricks and tips? Let’s hear them!
Have you managed to keep to your workout schedule? Or do you have something special planned? Are you planning to try something new? Following any plans?
I am also aware many of us are still are going through a second round of James Dunne! Well done, troupe! That’s amazing!
I myself have been doing quite a bit of rowing as my cross training, and motivating for me was to follow a 10k plan! I love a good plan and I also made sure I could reward myself with a medal by the end of it (see pic)! Always a nice motivation!
So how about everyone? What’s your top tip for keeping up that motivation that gets you to the workout mat?

And our key standard links of all things S&F will always be provided below:
Just started the YWA July Calender SPARK... I think it's going to be a very core orientated month, rather than a FWFG one, but I'm up for it.Posting this to remind myself I am Strong and I know daily core work will do me good...
I nearly always find time to hop on my mat each day...a little goes a long way, and I feel much better after my practice.
I post my yoga on Strava, a few of us do, which also keeps me accountable and is an incentive (they sometimes have activity badges that yoga counts towards too!)
Well.. I was shaking things up by a dalliance with C on the NRC runs...but... an infected . blocked sinus and a hefty course of antibiotics put paid to that.
Strength work has been on going , gentle and familiar. You know how I love my short workout routines with Body Fit with Amy! They are doable... and I know them so well.
Lots of ankle work too, sitting and standing, Using Ginger Runner. Folk like these do inspire me to keep trying, they have an easy personable approach. Choosing exercise or workouts which suit us is so important I feel?
So... a week to recover I think , but still working on core strength and stamina.
My motivation ?
Well I want to keep fit physically and mentally... for myself and those around me... especially one certain small runner in training...and when I feel like I just can't... I check out a photo like this... and I do
motivation

Awwwhh 🥰🥰 What a nice pic with a runner in training!
Yes, I do love my almost daily cool-down stretches and mobility exercises after running or rowing, and I tend to throw in some knee strengthening (from James Dunne) at times.
A few days ago I heard from Liono of a fabulous ankle exercise of moving your foot via ankle in an alphabet shape.
We did an alphabet exercise during the James Dunne challenge, standing on one leg and doing the alphabet. That one was hard on the glutes, but the foot one from @liono feels like it’s strengthening the ankles.
I can't take the credit for that one I'm afraid, but can't remember for the life of me where I came across it! I like it because it's so simple and I can easily remember it without having to look some sort of routine up! 😊
Yes, those are the best. I like the James Dunne 30 challenge we did here in S&F recently, but oh boy, were the sequences and number of repetitions confusing!
Hi CBDB Well……..mmmmm exercise, what’s that!! 🤣 I am just about managing one short run a week plus before/after stretches but otherwise just trying to get through to the end of term!! I have a plan though - as soon as term ends (few more weeks yet) I am going to get moving! My motivation is training for an event - hoping to do New Forest 10 mile in October but need to get signed up soon.
Well done to you for keeping up your rowing etc 👍

Ohhh awwhhh 10 Miles! And in the New Forest! That sounds brilliant!
And yes, work can get in the way of so much, no matter how much we love our job!
Hi CBDB , I just posted on th JD end stage thread about motivation! I find the group challenges on here very motivating - especially as we post about how it is going. And being able to see positive results is motivation to continue!!
