Xeloda
Hi library2019,
I'm sorry, but I have no experience with Xeloda. I know I've read some posts here about it and it seems to work very well for some people, so I wish you the best for success with it.
I'm sure that others with first hand experience will respond but in the meantime, if you search on "Xeloda" in the search bar, upper right, you'll see some good information.
Take care, be well...
Lynn
Thanks will give it a go and report how it goes🌹
Hi Library.
I'm on my 6 treatment of Xeloda. Two weeks on one week off. The amount you take is determined by the oncologist and the pharmacy.
There is a formula they follow. I think it's based on weight. I asked the doctor to decrease the amount of xeloda I should take because I get a lot of allergic reactions from chemo
drugs. I have been doing this since 2009. I have no side effects to speak of. Blood test are good. Pet scan report stated some tumors have shrunk and some are larger. I was happy with that as this was my first time a tumor has gotten smaller. My next pet scan is late May or June. I find I sleep a lot, not too sure if it is the drug or the progression of the cancer. I sleep at least 16 hours a day on the second week of treatment. Well if you and your doctor decide to make the change then I hope all goes well for you. I wouldn't worry about the side effects on this oral treatment. There are a lot of chemo drugs out there that are ruthless but not this one. Take care I would love to know how you are doing if you make the change.

I am on Xeloda and find the worse thing Is the hand and foot syndrome. I have very sensitive skin anyway . I started putting the udderly cream on twice a day a couple of weeks before I started treatment. Got my oncologist to change to one week on one week off. This is the first time I am trying this. Also started on 50mg B6 as someone said their oncologist Suggested this. Also find Imam very tired. Found Taxol much easier but
Everyone is different. Good luck with it.
I started it this week. So far so good, though i’ve noticed that i’m sleeping longer at night and my appetite has decreased again 🙂 though i’m only 3 days in.
I did prepare for it my making sure my hands and feet have been well moisturised since I was told I would be having the drug.
My 2729 was 311 and I just went from Ibrance to Tamoxifen. Took a new test Thursday. Will get results next week. Reenie
I’m on my second round of Xeloda. I put Udderly Smooth lotion with 20% urea (getting the one with the most urea is important) to prevent hand and foot syndrome which seems to be the worst side effect for most. Dosage is based on body mass. I started on a high dose of 2000 mg (4 pills) in the morning and same at night. I had terrible side effects including chest and jaw pain, dizziness, low blood pressure, and constipation so I called the Onc and he reduced the dosage to 1500/1500 and I am a whole lot better. I take it for 2 weeks on and one week off. During my week off, all my energy came back. I have a significant amount of tumors in my liver which were causing pain and all of that has gone away. I believe the drug is working and my first blood test showed a decrease in liver enzymes (AST/ALT). It’s a good drug, just have to get the dosage right for you. I’m also taking Keytruda immunotherapy through a program with Merck. The thought is the immunotherapy might prolong Xeloda’s effectiveness. You might ask your Onc if Keytruda is an option for you.
I have been on Xeloda for a year now! Very few side effects, just keep your feet and hands moisturized heavy with Urea 20. I am a dose of 1500 twice a day for two weeks, then two weeks off. I always count down the days till my two weeks off! Just had scans in February, and all tumors have shrunk or remain the same size. AND no evidence of any new tumors! Good luck!
I am on it. I finished my third cycle, 14 days on, 7 days off. I go to my fourth cycle this Thursday. I must say everyone's body reacts differently. For me, I am having more side effects each cycle but; I am taking things to help with it. I have some upset stomach, low energy, hand foot symptom. At least the cancer markers are going down.
Hi library2019,
I'm not taking Xeloda, but I have seen recent posts similar to yours, i.e. folks new to the treatment who are looking for others with experience.
I get the impression that folks are posting/replying less frequently, probably because we're all focused more on the virus right now.
Maybe it would be helpful look at earlier posts/responses?
The way to see them is to enter "Xeloda" in the search bar (upper right) and then "filter" (on the right) for "my communities" (to get just MBC members). I just tried it and it returned numerous prior posts/discussions.
Good luck with it!
