I am starting my 5th chemo regimen as others have failed . I am stage IV with mets to bones and liver. My oncologist believes Xeloda is best option at this point. I have extensively read medical articles and this cancer and treatment has a median survival of 3-4 months . Yes i am freaking out and incredibly sad. Can anyone share regarding Xeloda and outcome? Thanks so much

don't read into the stats...they have NOTHING to do with your future. i have been on xeloda now for 10 cycles and my cancer is regressing. mets to bones, bladder, colon and a mass under my eye that is showing "interval decrease"! this is my third regimen. xeloda is a great drug. little hand/foot syndrome, but i am still hiking, swimming and golfing. no freaking out - just breathe. one day at a time.
Thanks for your reply..means a lot
I am on Xeloda and just started my fourth cycle. I am glad kit5 responded to you because I have heard the same stories as she shared. I too don't look at stats because we all are different. I will have my first set of scans in November so am hoping that the tumors are at a minimum stable and best case shrinking. Mine are also in my liver. I will keep you posted as to how my scans come out. Hang in there and take one day at a time and remember that you are not a stat!!
I too will have my first scans since being on Xeloda this Thursday at MD Anderson. Mine same as yours, bones to liver. Should get the results Friday! Pray its all good.....
Please let me know how you do. Maybe you responded earlier but did you ever get a rash on your arms or legs from the Xeloda. I have and my doctor prescribed a topical steroid creme but not really working. Just wondered if you had experienced this. Prayers for you and good results.
Good luck on the Xeloda. I think stats are made to scare us or something - each one of us has an individual make-up and therefore an individual response to what is also an individual disease - just look at the variety of symptoms, side effects and mets we all exhibit. I was on Xeloda for a year with great results for most of that time (liver mets only) and I know of people who have been on it for a great deal longer. My oncologist was troubled by an increase in the effects on my hands and felt that, because my liver met was not actually shrinking any more maybe we should try something different. I was so sorry as felt comfortable on the Xeloda.
May it work well for you. Use plenty of good creams (lanolin perhaps if it suits) on hands and feet, talk to your oncologist if you have any other discomfort but it really seems to be a generally easy drug to take.
Thanks for sharing, so uplifting to hear! Prayers!

thank you for the encouraging post. I have been in such a dark place the last 4 weeks and trying like heck to crawl out. Good luck with your new regimen and God Bless You Pink Sister!
also - are you sure that the 3 - 4 months isn't the average of progression free survival - not your actual survivor prognosis! i am on cycle ten - so 7 months... some women get years... double check with your oncologist...good to bring a friend so you don't mishear and freak out unnecessarily xo
