2nd Chemo for my wife!

My wife 66 year old is not tech savvy hence as a care giver I am sharing her exp. Will show the posts and responses to her as she needs support to go through the side effects of chemo and face it up.

About 4 weeks ago she had mild pain in her left breast and she noticed a lump. After mammo, MRI PET CT ans core biopsy cancer with metastatic tendency was confirmed. The line of treatment advised by the Oncologist is 4x AC 3 Wkly + 12 Wkly Taxol + Herceptin (. She is HER2 +) surgery + Rad then Herceptin for 1 year. She had tough time for 10 days after 1st Chemo but has presently she is good. Today is her second Chemo, I am worried for her to go through it all over again. Will like to know from you how should we handle it ? She had nice long hairs and she has lost about 75% of the same.

What a great husband you are!!! I wasn’t on her chemo, but advise getting hair cut very short She should consider a wig or head coverings/scarves. There are many options online for women getting chemo. Maybe you can teach her the rudiments of email and logging on here. I’m 65 and if I can do it, she can. SHARE offers telephone support. Best to you and your wife.

Thanks Nstonerocks for your advice and encouraging words. Did not expect response so soon. 2nd Chemo was administered to her yesterday. 20 hours passed, she is sleeping and looks good. Our daughter has already cut her hairs short and now she wears a scarf. Shall show her this message. Sure will give her strength for the rest of treatment. Thank again!

Anything that makes her feel and look good. Manicures, facials, massages if her doctor approves it. Glad your daughter is with her. She is so lucky to have you both.

First off, I am sorry you both are going through this. I have been battling MBC for 10 years. I had a period of 8 years symptom free and lived a very normal life. I am back on chemo as of Jan. Some advice I would offer is for her to take the nausea medicine before she feels nauseous. It is different for everyone but I usually am only nauseous 2 to 3 days after chemo. Also, something that has been my lifeline is planning something to look forward to. I dont know if she gets a week off chemo but we used to plan short camping trips. It could whatever you all enjoy. A good friend told me one time that chemo is doable and resting, laughing, and praying help me get through it. Wishing you all the best!

Thanks Arkiemom. First I am sorry that you are on Chemo again. You already said in your message that Chemo is doable and sure you will be free from the deseas. I my self is a cancer survivor and the oncologist has given me 10 years it is likely to return. Now my wife is going through the ordeal. We are having support of my son and daughter family who incidentally stay in the same city. She is a very active person and only way to keep her active is to keep her busy with crafts, knitting or teaching 4 adorable grand kids. She loves traveling and I am planning and wish we will go to Sofia or Istanbul once she is ok. Thanks again for your response, sure my wife will like it too.

What a lovely husband you are. I watch lots of Netflix. And also knit.

We are also planning to go to Istanbul in the fall. I go right after chemo and return right before the next treatment. Hugs and good luck to you both.

Nice words, thank you. This is her 1st week after 2nd Chemo session and she is feeling fatigued and nauseated. Even now when ever she feels better, she will be knitting a cardigan for her self. You are quite brave to go traveling in between Chemo sessions. We are scared of crowded places to avoid infection. But sure we will go for the vacation once her treatment is over. Thanks again.

I wish for speedy recovery of your wife. Hope she is doing great and responding really well to the treatment. My mom is also recommended the same course of treatment. I was wondering what is "AC" in "4x AC 3 Wkly". Please help me if you know any patient assistance program going from any of the below. Roche is too expensive for me.

canmab - biocon

Hertaz - mylan

Biceltius - emcure

Vivitra - Zydus.

Do let me know if you know any hospital who allow medicine from outside in Bangalore, India.
