hi everyone,

My mom recently got diagnosed with hormone positive breast cancer, with metastasis to the bones. She is currently on ibrance(125mg) and letrozole … anyone who has been through similar treatment, can you please guide any dietary or lifestyle changes that are to be made or any if anyone benifited from any alternate complementary therapy…. Will be extremely grateful for your insights

my mom was on this exact combo for almost 3 years and did great honestly! She made no major lifestyle changes . I know everyone is different but this was a very easy one for her. Hope your mom does well on it for a very long time!

hi!

Am on the same combination for the last 4 years. The Letroze causes bone and joint pain, which had increased over time i did experience nausea initially, and i still have extreme hot flushes

Dietary changes such as avoiding fried foods and spicy food is advisable . otherwise life goes on as usual with a few initial wobbles!

Wishing your Mom all the best and strength in this new journey 🌺

Hi AS_2403. I suggest you look at my posts from way back…. 7 years now since I’ve been having treatment for the same as your mum. So can read about my journey, (And lots of others here) who have had the same.

You will see that a lot of us have done very well for some time on the same treatment. And there may be some hints there for your mum as well.

I’m too tired to go into it in detail here and I can’t remember everything anyway. But I have lived a full life. didn’t give up any foods, drinks, or sweets, that I loved. I hav just been sure to make myself happy. And to live a full rich life while I’ve been about to.

I have been on letrozole and verzenio for almost one year with virtually no side effects. The doctor at the Mayo Clinic recommended no beef, limit sugar, and no alcohol. He also recommended eating mainly plant-based foods. I am trying my best to follow his advice. Good luck to your mom.

I have the same type of cancer as your mom and have taken Letrozole & Ibrance off an on 75mg. I did switch to Tamoxifen & Ibrance as it is not as hard on your bones. I am 73 years old still going strong.

Diet I follow I follow Jane McMellands book

This is an excellent book to read. I have followed this for years diagnosed in 2005.

I had the same diagnosis and treatment 5 years ago with good results as no new growth. I recently had another spot on a different bone. My oncologist said Ibrance typically works for 2-3 years then a new drug is needed. I made it to 5 years. I was on Verzenio for 6 months but it didn’t shrink the tumor. I also take a bone strengthening shot every month ( exgeva). Now I’m on a new shot to work harder on my estrogen (Faslodex). I’m in her office now as she will try another drug to replace the Verzenio. Best of luck and keep your mom distracted and busy so she can relax as best as possible.

I'm so sorry about your mom. I have been on this combo for 4 1/2 years for bone metastases. I had some nausea the first couple of weeks but was recommended to take the pills with my dinner and to use Chimes ginger chews from Amazon. The letrozole can cause joint pain, but exercise can help with that, even just getting in a walk every day or several times a week. Also, the meds do cause some hair thinning as they target rapidly growing cells like hair, skin and nail follicles. I reduced my sugar intake and make a healthy smoothie for breakfast with Kefir, almond milk, berries, bananas, spinach and kale and flax seed, chia seeds or hemp seeds. Sometimes I had a half avocado for extra creaminess. I try not to eat a lot of fried foods and don't drink a lot of alcohol, maybe a glass of wine a couple times a month. I also get exercise every day and have monthly massages. This is a great site where you will find lots of information, advice and support. Sending you and your mom hugs and prayers. Hope she does well on this protocol for a very long time with little or no side effects.

I have been on the same combination for the past 5 years and my scans (my most recent 05 March) show no evidence of active disease.

I started off on 125mg Ibrance, however this was reduced to 100mg a year later because of neutropenia. In addition I get administered Denusomab injections every 6 months. I lead a very normal happy life.

I hope the treatment keeps working amazingly well for you for a long long time and may you stay as positive and vibrant always. Good luck💐
