Hi Matkeidyl,

That's an interesting question. I wish I knew the answer to your question! I would ask your oncologist or oncology nurses about that, as I am sure they will be able to tell you more. I think there are a lot of options, but I can't say for sure.

Take care,

Sophie ❤

I’m not sure. Similar to your journey. Diagnosed January 30. Started Ibrance/letrozole April after 2 months of zolodex/xgeva to put me into menopause. Mixed results at August scan. Now Afinitor and Exastamene. My onco said probably another round of pills then maybe chemo if that 3rd line was unsuccessful. I did a second opinion and they agreed. Mentioned xeloda as my 3rd line. I know there is verzenio. I’ve also asked if fulvestrant w Ibrance was an option later...”possibly”. There are 1-2 other MBC pharmaceutical commercials I’ve seen that are additional options. I also know of 2-3 other trials currently going. I’m holding out that I’ll see immunotherapy work for MBC soon. 🤗

Yes hoping immunotherapy is the way forward- where are your mets? X

Did they suggest Taxol Avastin

I didn’t even ask about the chemo meds. I’m open to it. But also nervous as I read 13% will have their tumor changed by it IE going to hormone negative or vice versus.

Something called Tapur Trial I just heard. Also metformin for diabetes has shown success “changing” aggressive breast cancer. Makes sense with the sugar link. There is a radiation treatment for liver Mets called Y90. Eribulin is another chemotherapy agent...then there is also some different cocktail combinations of the various chemotherapy drugs too.

Sounds promising

in reply to Snowcone16

That sounds interesting. I have only ever heard of Metformin being used to treat diabetes, so it would be good to see if it could also be effective in treating metastatic breast cancer. x

Metformin is interesting. I have also read about it for us. Wondering why not give with Ibrance. It’s been around a long time . My husband and daughter both take for different reasons

I googled. There are trials. It’s not recommended for triple positive or triple negative folks. I’m going to mention next appointment since my MBC has been resistant. My friend reassured me it took 18 months to find her combo. She had Mets to liver and brain. Now she is 2 years NED.

Also, I will reach out next week to my NIH connection and ask what they know

wow. I have been on different regimens of chemo nonstop since Nov 2016. Still haven't found the "one" or "combo" that will work for me. Your friends story gives me a little more hope!

I can't answer the question about how many things there are to try but to be honest I am a bit surprised they gave you a chemo drug as a first drug against mets. Have you ever had a second opinion? If not I would grab those scan results and run for 1 or possibly 2 others before trying a any new chemo drug. There are immunotherapy trials out there which depending on your results might be more promising for you. Some of the trials will exclude you if you have tried certain things before, others won't except you until you have tried a certain number of alternatives first so you should research (look up somewhere here there is a thread which shares a site that you can search trials specific for your profile). I know it's all a lot to process finding new docs and looking up trials yourself etc. Perhaps you can enlist a friend or someone to help? Or call into SHARE and seek help that way. I believe they can help point you in the right direction if you need it. Wishing you the best and for good scan results!

Thank you! Yes i had 2nd and 3rd opinion on the chemo treatment as first line. I had multiple mets in the liver that they wanted to blast . Currently stable now on Ibrance /letrozole 3rd cycle but interested to know what treatment lies ahead.

in reply to Matkeidyl

I have been reading about cryoablation where tumours can be frozen and then destroyed. I wonder if that would work on liver metastases? x

Just googled it - wonder if it workd with multiple mets.

in reply to Matkeidyl

Yes, I think it would. It's not something my oncologist mentioned to me and I forgot to ask her yesterday. But when I contacted a private hospital they said they offer it.

If you do a search in this forum there are others with experience of these other treatments. You could reach to them individually perhaps.
