Pregablin Life Changing

Hi I just wanted to give you all an update on my mums RLS. She was struggling to sleep and would walk around all night rolling on the floors banging her legs and this would leave her depressed agitated emotional and sometimes suicidal and she wouldnt want to get out of bed the next day. My mums RLS has been around for 10 years + and has been ruining her life we tried the following;

Increasing iron ferritin with fast absorbing iron every night and every other night

Gabapentin- this left my mum numb and sedated but more frustrated as was dizzy when tried to get up to help her legs

Vitamin D

Vitamin C

Vitamin E

Magnesium

Leg vein tablets from H&B

CBD Oil

Gels to cool legs

Foot massager

Massage gun

Walking

Leg stretches

Soap under mattress

Some of the above made a difference but none were long lasting.

The reason for this post is to just update you on what worked for my mum. I know these things won't work for everyone but this forum has helped me to understand alot about RLS and I just wanted to share what made a difference for my mum.

So with Gabapentin there was no relief at all just dizziness and lack of balance at night but still no sleep.

Pregablin worked from day 1. My mum is taking 100mg a few hours before bed and has a few twitches here and there but 3 months on finally something made a difference and my mum is over the moon, says her whole world has changed overnight.

I want to say I hope you all find relief in some form. Another thing my mum loves and swears by for some form of relief is an electric blanket. She says this calms her legs alot and warms up.

Lastly after being referred for over a year, my mum has her 1st appointment with the neurologist. Although she is feeling much better I am aware these results may not last so I would like the neurology department to run tests on the cause of her issues. Does anyone know what we should be asking for?

That's great news Ruzi. There's no reason to think the results won't last. I've been on pregabalin for approx 9 years and it hasn't reduced in efficacy. Your mum may need to up her dose at some point but my advice would be to go slowly and stay on the lowest dose possible to avoid unwanted side effects.

That's great ! If she still has a few twitches, she might want to increase her pregabalin by 25 mg. I suspect that will be enough to give her full relief. There is no way for the neurology department to run tests on the cause of her condition except for if she has an electrolyte imbalance . I'm assuming her ferritin is over 100. She can keep a food diary to see if any of the following are causing her RLS: alcohol, coffee, sodas with caffeine or eating chocolate, sugar, carbs, foods high in sodium, or foods that cause inflammation. If she is not taking any other medicines or certain other supplements, is not, smoking , taking estrogen, MSG, collagen supplements, melatonin, and is not under a lot of stress and not doing vigorous exercise and the food diary does indicate any problems, then it is likely her genes. To find out if her RLS is heriditary, join 23andMe and then join 23andMe+ (costs $169+$29).
