My husband was prescribed temgesic for 5 days as a trial medication. He has suffered with terrible nausea despite having ondansetron on board. He complains of the frothiness from the medication and how it makes his teeth feel. Has anyone else has an issues with the frothiness making them sick?
We are trying to get subutex as temgesic only gives him 3/4hrs of slight relief! He is in pain 24/7 with his RLS symptoms. We believe Subutex would suit best annd have also been told it doesn’t froth up as much.
Can anyone comment on this? Looking for other stories like ours that I can show my dr so we can move from temgesic to subutex.
Thank you

Hi Skye, I can’t help with the differences between the medications you mention, however, I would like to tell you that there are certain substances that can make the symptoms of RLS worse then they have to be. The most notorious are the SSRIs and melatonin. Then there’s certain antihistamines, statins, antacids, testosterone therapy, calcium channel blockers. The list is longer, but you get the point.
I find that taking 25 to 50mg of ferrous bisglycinate on an empty stomach about an hour before bed obliterates my RLS for one night. Several other people on here use this remedy as well. If your husband has recently withdrawn from the DAs, the iron won’t be enough or if he has certain co-morbid conditions like chronic kidney disease. Good luck. Someone should be along shortly to provide more advise.
Extreme nausea is very common with all brands of Buprenorphine. Temgesic and Subutec are just names given to Buprenorphine hydrochloride. However, there are slight differences in the strength of each brand. I've been on Buprenorphine since July 2021 and have been on 4 or 5 different brands.
Accord Buprenorphine works best for me. Sandoz, Subutec(Invidior) and morningside are not as effective for me & I get breakthrough RLS. My pharmacist tries to source Accord brand but sometimes it's out of stock.
All Buprenorphine will cause very dry mouth and that feeling on his teeth is from lack of saliva.
Hopefully the nausea will settle in 2 weeks. Mine did after 10 days of vomiting and being bedridden on the sofa. I used medical cannabis for a week and when I stopped the cannabis, the nausea had gone.
The dry mouth/ teeth can be resolved by chewing gum, and using saliva replacement products from the chemist like biotene.
It can cause tooth loss so keep chewing gum to stimulate saliva.
If he's only getting 3 to 4 hours of relief, the dose might be wrong or the brand might not be as effective. Look at the package and see what company has made the Temgesic.
Also, he may not be on the right dose or taking it correctly. Some people mistakenly swallow the pills, but they have to be placed under the tongue and left to dissolve over 1 or 2 minutes.
I had zero RLS from the first dose of Buprenorphine, which is why I stuck with it for 2 weeks of severe nausea & vomiting.
The average effective dose is 0.5 -1mg taken around 2 hours before bed.
I find it best to take 0.2mg at 10pm.and 0.2mg at midnight and that covers me 24/7. Some need higher doses.
