TEMGESIC DOSAGE email from Glen Brooks MD

I am frequently asked this question so I emailed my compassionate

Glen Brooks MD

Temgesic is much easier to obtain in most countries than buprenorphine /Subutex

Temgesic is Micro-dose

Good morning Kester,

Thank you for the note and the fun pictures of Australia under a cloak of snow. You are correct, most

folks living in the US have no idea that it can snow "down under". It really is quite beautiful.

As for the Temgesic, it is buprenorphine, but the 200 microgram dose is very small. The smallest

buprenorphine tab in the US is 2mg (2,000 micrograms). I do have one patient that that only needs 1mg

(1,000 micrograms or 5 Temgesic equivalents/day), but most patients need more depending upon the

severity of their symptoms and whether their RLS is active all day long or just at night.

So yes, at a minimum 5 Temgesics/day. But, some patients may require 10/day. The daily dose will be quite

individual. Hope this helps...

Best wishes and stay warm,

Glen Brooks

Thanks, Shumbah. That clarifies the situation for me.I was getting quite discombobulated between Buprenorphin and Temgesic.

My Dear Shumbah - What would we do without you? I was so glad to hear about the Temgesic. You will see a recent post of mine and I have been to hell and back for various reasons - mainly caused by ignorant and bossy doctors.I have changed to another practice and I am hoping that this new doctor will perhaps look kindly on changing me from Butec patches to Temgesic. The Butec is working well and gives me RLS free evenings and five hours or more sleep at night. However, I find they are irritating my skin and causing angry patches for two or three days after removal. Because I am on oral chemotherapy daily (I have been told I will be on this for good) this leaves me in the unfortunate position that I could eventually develop ulcers on my skin and at worst cancer - not definitely but have been told to look after skin - keep moisturised, etc.

I use the buprenorphine patches at present strength of 15 mcg which is supposed to give me approximately 360 mcg daily. The Temgesic seems to come in tablets of 200 mcg so it looks as if two of these might fill the bill. I am not sure how the changeover (if allowed) would take place but I am sure Dr. Brooks might even be able to make suggestions.

Anyhow I have an apology to make to you. You very kindly sent me lots of information some time ago and I did not reply. I was in the midst of the most horrible depression (I know you will understand). Thank you so much for all you have done.

I was interested to hear about your snowy situation. Here at present we are having extreme heat (over 3l degrees) and we are just not used to anything like this. We are lucky to get 22 or 23 in the summer. I actually love snowy weather so I envy you.

Again many thanks for all the information you provide. There are many good contributors on the site which helps us all informed. Do take care of yourself and again apologies for not having contacted you.

Love from Jelbea XXXX

Hey Jelbea ,

We all have lives thy get in the way so I always feel bad for my Tardy reply’s but can’t be helped and then I worry I have forgotten something for someone it’s very hard to keep up.

Guess what it would be as simple as take your patch off that night and pop your Temgesic under your tongue.

If you get Temgesic please send me a private email first so I can talk you through it.

Hopefully that email from Glen will help you.

Don’t apologies

I’m sure I miss emails often.

We have lives and children I have 5 so there is always something going on and old parents.

Good luck let me know how you go at doctors please 🌸

Thank you so much for helpful reply. I will keep you in the picture. I am at present getting off Valium which I was forced to take in hospital and within a month was hooked. I hope to be off by next month and then have a talk with the doc about temgesic. Best wishes Jelbea
