Hi everyone, I just read some posts relating to vitamin B12 injections.a few months ago I began getting a vitaminB12 injection privately as I believed that its harder for older people to make the vitamin, plus I hoped it would possibly lessen my RLS.im due another injection shortly, please can I have some advice on whether I'm wasting my time and money and can a blood test tell if I'm vitamin B12 deficient.

Thankyou SueJohnson, I had bloods taken at A n E just last week,I will ring the department and hopefully if possible they could tell me my vitamin B12 results as its virtually impossible to get an appointment at my gp surgery anytime soon.

It may not be included in a regular blood test but you can ask if it was.

I take B12 drops every day and get injections a few times/ year but I don't notice any difference with my RLS. I have heard it helps with mild cases though. B12 shots are safe & have other good side effects such as energy so it's is worth a try. Even if it doesn't help your RLS it's prob worth the money. Good luck & let us know how it works out!

Hi SkyCop,thankyou for replying, I did get a couple of the injections, can't say that I felt a great difference in my health but I do agree with you that vitamin B12 won't do any harm,my niece who has been nursing a long time and has some knowledge on the subject also says its worthwhile so I will get my shot soon and see if I feel any benefits this time around.

While on Chemo, my B-12 started going down. My GP gave me b-12 injections for about a year. It didn't help or hurt my RL. Eventually blood work showed high B-12, so I discontinued them shots. I have could tell no difference while getting shots with mood or RL. Since finishing Chemo, I have mild neuropathy. I am doing B-1 thru B-12 supplement to help improve my neuropathy.

Hi Opie thankyou for replying, that's what I would be concerned about, that my B12 may be too high and don't need these injections.I will get this one which is due next week and maybe get some bloods taken so I will know if I require the shots.may I wish you good health in the future.

I have vitamin b12 deficiency and have regular 3 monthly injections. It doesn't affect my RLS symptoms.

Hi Jumpey, thankyou for replying, good to know that it doesn't affect your RLS.I understand that a Vitamin B12 is recommended for older people because of Malabsorption,I will get bloods taken which hopefully will let me know if I require these extra injections.
