Hi Donna, I to have been picking at food, the way I see it at the moment its got to be more healthier than smoking, I have been chewing gum or sucking hard boiled sweets as they last longer :) and just trying to keep busy, I am sure there will be others who will post with ideas, well done with quitting keep it up :)

Hi donnalondon,

Welcome to our on-line stop smoking community :-)

Well done to you in making it into your 2nd day quit :D

I always say that everybody is given 24 hours in each day... until they stop smoking and then all of a sudden, it feels like they have so much time on their hands and one of the most common time fillers is to eat!

One of the first things to return when you stop smoking is your sense of taste and sense smell. So for most people it can be one of the reasons why they turn to food, obviously with it tasting and smelling so much nicer, it's harder to say 'no'.

If you feel that any of the above is your reason for eating, a good place to start is by asking yourself the question "Am I hungry, or just eating for the sake of it?"

Try having a few healthy snacks at the ready so that you can just reach for them at these times.

Have a look through the following past blogs and you may be able to pick up a few extra handy hints and tips;

Are you using anything to help you to stop smoking or are you going cold turkey?

Please see this as part of the process in stopping smoking. Please remember that we are behind you all the way and that you really can do this :D

Is your quit date Sunday 25th November? Let me know and I'll make sure your name goes up on our 'Wall of Winner' - the place where every quitter is a winner :D

Hi Donna, well done on getting into day 2 of your quit :)

I found it hard not to eat in the early stages of my quit as well. I tried to always have healthy snacks around, but i decided not to bother if i munched on biscuits in between, not smoking was better for my health, and i could always sort my diet out after.

This kept me going and eventually this snacking stopped, i'm sure the same thing will happen with you, just try to eat more healthy snacks and use the other ones as a reward :)

I also tried to keep my mind and hands busy, also by going for walks, when the weather allowed :D :D

I'm sure with all the great suggestions from the others you'll get there, just don't get to stressed about, you'll get there :)

Hi Donna nice to meet you, a big big well done you've made that first step on the quitting ladder, stay focused and strong because you know you can do this :) :)

As for eating more, erm I think we've all snacked or are snacking because we seem to get an empty feeling inside, but exercise does help and as Sue says focus on the quitting first and then you can lose weight after that if you want too :) :)

Good luck with your quit

Pete :)

Awww thanks guys you are all really supportive thanks for the replys and the warm welcome! I think people need to know about this site!

Well I last smoked on Sunday and today is Wednesday if I thought yesterday was hard , I'm feeling it more today. I have been using sky.cig electric thing but only a couple of puffs same with the nicorette inhaler just here and there only every 5 hours.

I have to say I'm wondering whats going to happen tonight because last night I was up till 5:30am!! Hope it doesn't repeat itself again tonight. As for the eating it hasn't stopped lol but your right as long as I stop smoking I can sort the weight out after lol I'm going to start my jogging up this weekend just to keep myself busy and motivated! :) be strong people we can do this!! Hi Donna and welcome to our community. Yes you have come to the right place if you want help and support to crack this quitting thing. You sound like you've done all your planning so good luck and well done on getting through your third day. I think that when it's written up that you don't have to put weight on when quitting, it's been written by someone who has never smoked themselves, therefore, they don't understand that craving, hand-to-mouth thing - even if, like you, are on the e-cigs.

Feel free to join in our daft chat and we look forward to chatting again soon, Andi :)
