Hi Richieken, The answer to your question is Yes. You can do it . Are you going cold turkey or using nrt. with the help and support on here and a bit of positive thinking you can do it. Just take it a day at a time. :) :)

Richieken,

What you have to understand is that absolutely EVERYONE who starts this journey feels exactly the same way as you do.You probably know it's not going to be easy, you worry that you might not make it past the first 24hrs or so,you know that you're going to miss your beloved cigs the list is bloomin endless. However what you have to try & do is FORGET all of the negative stuff & make a list (in your head if you want) of all of the things you have to gain even if it's just all of the cash you'll save (that's quite near the top of most people's list!) Read the posts on here and try to imagine how good you'd feel after just 2 weeks without a cig.Are you using NRT or going the cold turkey route? If you're using NRT just make sure you use your patches/inhilator/spray etc as often as you can in the first couple of days to get you through the rough patches. Please please please post on here, have a good rant/moan/shout if you need to,everyone does it.Lastly, remember that I was a smoker for nearly 40 years I didn't really want to give up but had to for health reasons & 6 months on I'm fitter and healthier than I've been in a long time and I can taste and smell things like never before.YOU CAN DO THIS WITHOUT A DOUBT.Good Luck.Hugs H

Hi Richieken

I am only on my second day myself and I have to tell you what bit of advice I have found most effective (I understand everyone is different). The Allan Carr book, where he says:

Stop Smoking and Stop Moping about it! If you are waiting to just wake up one day and never want a cigarette again it just ain't going to happen. If you want to be a slave to the ciggies for the rest of your life then go on and have another one!! It is totally down to you.

I also worked out (advice in the book) that my next cigarette will cost me, at todays prices £31,200.00 over the next 10 years.

Please don't think that was me been horrible to you, this is the frame of mind that Allan Carr teaches us. Go for it, you can now be a non-smoker if you wish. Good Luck
