Breathing Exercise (1) To help calm a craving down...
Posted by EmJay ROY CASTLE 3 Jul 20121 commentReport
Cravings lead to irritation and sometimes panic, causing the quitter’s mind to speed up. When this occurs, concentrating becomes hard. Using a deep breathing exercise is an effective way of calming yourself down.
This exercise can be done anywhere from sitting down in a chair to waiting for a bus.
Follow the simple stages described below;
With your mouth closed and shoulders relaxed, inhale deeply and slowly to the count of eight.
Yes Pete I managed to get some patches and feel so much better for doing it. I was really struggling yesterday. I'm just worried now if I can cope when I have to stop taking them. I had thought I was possibly ready. But I'm so not!!
Anyway it looks like another nice day and I'm just deciding if I should go and do done work or not!! Everyone is telling me to have a day of relax and chill but I will get bored doing nothing or end up spending money if I go out!!
Maybe I should try some of those breathing exercises when I go out!! Might help me not to crave that nice bag or heels!!

You flippin get out there and treat yourself young Lady, something really really nice
As for the breathing exercise, if you can do that one, your a better man than i am, cus i havnt got a clue
Your probably right Pete.. Which is why I'm going to stuff my face tonight at my birthday dinner!! I'm intending on eating anything and everything!! I will suffer tomorrow but it's my first smoke free birthday in 20 years!!! So pig out instead of piggies!!
And good on you for reaching day 7 xxxxxxx big hugs ..
Thanks Pete for the lovely Daily Chat, and for the information about breathing exercises. You’re a guddin!!
Well it’s not very nice here today, very wet and looking all autumnal
There’s no sign of Emjay yet, hope she’s ok??? With any luck the office will be a little quieter after her visit
Hi Chris
Well done for sticking with quitting, you’re doing brilliant. Make sure you keep asking for advice or information; like Pete said any questions you have may help someone else too.
There are more breathing exercises on here if the one Pete’s suggested isn’t suitable. Just let me know and I’ll have a little look through the posts.
Hi Lisa-Jane
I’m really pleased you’re feeling better. You’ve been quit now for almost 11 weeks now (is this right?), you’re doing really well. What strength patch are you using?
Do you go along to your local Stop Smoking group or are you buying the patches yourself?
It is recommended the patches are used between 8-12 weeks depending on the brand and to follow the instructions to drop down the stages over the weeks as advised. Your Stop Smoking Service may also be able to prescribe extra weeks if needed.
Look at it positivity that reduced the patches (stepping down) means your further away from needing those little piggies!
Try and remember stopping smoking using nicotine replacement (patches etc) and getting support will boost your chances of stopping and staying stopped.
Breathing exercises maybe a good idea too.
Speak soon everyone, enjoy your day

Good morning Claire long time no see gal
What you saying about our Emjay mind you she does look like a chatterbox, when she's not noddin that is !!
I hope your ok Claire, your looking as pretty as ever, if i may say so, only cus theres no Emjay,Andi or Jillygirl about to bash me think its time i wasnt here !!
Yes coming into that I think!! I loose track sometimes as my app on my phone tells me in days!!
I'm now on the 7mg 24 hour patch it works a darn site better than the 16 hour 10mg patch my advisor put me on first. However I no longer have an advisor as my chemist sacked him I did send a message to Emjay although I'm Not a hundred percent sure it sent. As she said she would see if she could find me a new place close by.
My advisor didn't follow instructions and I have been on step 3 for almost 4 weeks now. But as much as he didn't follow instructions this has worked for me so I'm happy. Although I don't want to keep buying patches as I'm a bit worried how I will cope as I had to do that 24 hours without a patch.
But surely 7mg isn't really that much compared to what I was taking on board when I was smoking. Maybe after finding this process slightly easier than I thought I'm now starting to face the hard battle!! Giving it up altogether!!
Day 7-- I 've noticed that my teeth are white again driving too and from work - a couple of hik-ups but just shoved a fruit pastille in my g-- erm mouth and they seem to just go
The breathing exercise above works mind you i think that i was concentrating that much, that i just forgot about them piggies
I had a harder time than usual at work, but some shouting and some of the above sorted it
Emjay, i think that i had a senior moment yesterday gal, cus am on my 7th day today, i quit on the Tuesday 28th aug, cant help it gal, am getting on a bit now, seem to have more and more of them senior moments these days, no its not the lager
