Hey Dawlol, welcome to the site and huge congrats on quitting smoking! I know it's a pain when you put on weight when you smoke but in the grand scheme of things it's best to remain a non smoker and put on a bit of weight which can be worked off when you are more comfortable in your quitting smoking journey than depriving yourself of nibbles and chewing your fingers off craving a smoke and giving in! :o Fruits have natural sugars in them so they aren't calorie free but it's all good natural healthy sugars.

Keep up the fab work, give yourself a huge pat on the back because it's a huge deal to kick the smokes, you aren't alone, come join us in the community chat and join in the silly fun if you wish :D xx

When you've quit smoking, not when you smoke. I am in muppet mode :)

Hi Dawlol

Congratulations and welcome to our site, I hope you find lots of useful information/advice as well as get to know all our quitters ;-)

Lenne has given you the best advice really, well done :-D But this may help too -

Nicotine speeds up your metabolism, so when you smoke your body burn the calories faster. It also acts an appetite suppressant, so you don’t feel as hungry. Food can also act as a substitute for cigarettes and it can be a lot easier to pick at the wrong snacks. Try planning your days and prepare your fruit, veg, nuts etc (get it chopped up and in the fridge). Frozen grapes are good too :-) Having your food ready can then act as your hand to mouth action that you may miss when stopping smoking.

I hope this helps you if not give me a shout 8-)

Hi Dawlol and welcome. If you want to stay quit then this is the right place. Take a bit of time to read through the old blogs and questions and I'm sure you'll find loads of tips and ideas. You will realise that we are a bit food obsessed - guess it's the hand to mouth thing. I try to eat healthily all the time but my real problem comes after I've eaten my dinner in the evening - I just get the shovelling urge and find it hard to stop! :o :D :D

Anyway just join in with the chat whenever you feel like - good mood or bad mood, we're all here to help each other.

Welcome and well done for stopping. I lost half a stone from 1st jan to 27th feb. I put the weight back on in about 3 weeks and felt a bit of a failure (quit 27th feb)..... I did start having a chocolate biscuit with every cup of tea I drank. However if someone had told me on Jan 1st I'd be a non smoker by the end of Feb .... I'd of not believed them. Even if you a gain a bit of weight at first .... you will be standing tall and feeling better about yourself. I'm only about 3lb lighter than 1st Jan so that's 6 months which is rubbish for a diet ...... but brilliant as a life change as I no longer smoke. I've stopped the chocolate habit now but did feel I needed to treat myself at the time, when it was early days.
