New.. and trying again! : Hi . I'm new and yes... - Quit Support
New.. and trying again!
Hi AmyJim
First, big welcome here, and congratulations on deciding to quit
It is the very best thing, and, it can be done! There's lots of folks on here to prove it.
Setting off on this quit you can begin to see the rest of your life without having to constantly worry about being a smoker, and all that goes with that
. That's a biggee for me, I don't know about you?
I am sure the advisors will come on later with advice on the planning and preparing, we all need some of that.
The same as you, this quit I am doing using the ecigs. Yesterday was 3 weeks, a massive success so far, with its ups and downs, but a lot of support from this site has helped enormously. For me the ecigs have been easier than the previous NRTs that I used, I think because I don't have to change so much what I do, because it mimics smoking. Comforters and nic.
Some of the advisors will come on later with proper advice and support. I just want to wish you welcome and lots of success!!
Welcome AmyJim, we all know that if at first you don't succeed, try try again. So well done. I'm also on ecig and we will all be right behind you here on this site just believe in yourself and you Can do it. Well done on making this decision, it really is the best thing you can do for your health x
Hi AmyJim, It's great you are joining us on this quit support site, and you will get plenty of support here. I to have quit with the help of an e-cig, after 45 years smoking, your GP will be happy, so will your Dentist !! Stay Strong, you can do this
Welcome to the site. Lots of people on here giving up using the ecig. I can only speak for me but they are great. I definitely could not have done it without them. I was a committed smoker. 40 plus years! Now i can say, very quietly though, i am a none smoker. Still sounds weird to think let alone say. Not sure if. I will ever be able to give up the nicotine, but that doesn't bother me.that's not bad for me. But i don't think i will ever pick up the ciggies again, i have come to far for that. For me i have done the impossible. From my heart, give it ago and good luck.
Aup AmyJim, its great to meet you and a big warm welcome to this lovely quit site
I see you have had some great advice already I'm sorry, but I dont know much about e-cigs
If you need any help, then you just come a shouting and we will try to help you
Good luck, Pete
Thanks for the replies. . I downloaded an app also.. I think it will help. Hubby is really happy about it too.. here's to trying again today. . Thanks again
Hi again, ermmm, I suspect your Amy and Jim is hubby
Like I said before, I dont know much about e-cigs, but what I do know is, it is best to make a quit plan cos this will help you at the hard times eh
Sit yourself down with a pen and a piece of paper
Try to think, when you need a smoke !,
What are the times that you normally light up !
Where are you at these times !
Try to do and go somewhere different at these times
I also wrote down on a piece of paper, why I want to smoke, and why I do not want to smoke, and I keep it with me, soooooo, if I do get a bad craving, I read it back to myself
Why I want to smoke !!
1)They help me when I get stressed out. ( Although this might just be psychological )
2)They help me think. ( here again this might just be psychological )
3)It’s easier than quitting.
4)Simply enjoy it
Why I want to quit smoking !!
1)Breathe easier.
2)Coughing and spluttering.
3)Walk up stairs without getting out of breath.
4)Whiter teeth
5)Healthier gums
6)Breath not smelling of fags
7)Clothes not smelling of fags
8)Better complexion. ( Smooth skin, More colour, Less wrinkles )
9)Better circulation in my hands and feet
10)Better health all round
11)Have money to spend on what I WANT TO ( Not having to put money aside for fags )
12)Getting my taste back
13)Not having a Furry tongue
14)Getting my sense of smell back
15)No standing outside in the cold and wet
16)Not having to think if I have enough fags to last me the day
17)No yellow fingers
18)Not having to carry a pack of fags and a lighter around with me
This is how I got ready and focused for my quit date, I am sure that you could come up with some more of your own reasons, either for or against smoking, so get thinking and let me know, then I can put them on the list eh
I hope this helps you
Amyjim,
I quit using an ECig and I'm nearly 8 months free of the cigs.Decide WHY you want to do this (you HAVE to WANT to quit for yourself and not just because you've been told to) make a plan (are you going to use your Ecig all the time? Will you wait until you really need a cig? What will you do if you go out socially, this can be tricky!? Plan as much as you can and tell as many people as possible that you've quit.I smoked 15 day for 38 years and I'm nicotine free,if I can do it then so can you.
Hi Amyjim and welcome to our community. I wish you well in your endeavour to quit the cigs. Keep coming on here and we'll try to help you stay on track. Good luck.
Welcome ^_^ As you've gotten great advice already, I will just add that I quit almost 5 weeks ago using an e-cig (vaporizer type). Don't think that it will be a cure-all and easy ride though, that was my mistake lol. I thought that it's essentially the same concept and idea AND I still get my nicotine..... nope! Monky has the right idea. The e-cig certainly helps a great deal but there will be times when it doesn't totally cut it, just have to be prepared for them :). It's a learning curve but hopefully you find something that works for you before you spend too much money (I spent somewhere around $200 before I found out what worked for me between e-cig variants and liquids).
