Day three: Day three done and dusted. In to day... - Quit Support
Day three
the not sleeping seems to be quite a common symptom...I suffered terribly with it and quit cold turkey, so not necessarily to do with patches. But...this does pass
I have used the patches, and quite successfully. Quit for a year, the first time, until something (and I have no idea whatever possessed me ) 'tripped me up' one day, over a year later. I don't think I had any sleep problems with the patches, think sleep problems come with not smoking, and then, the 'smoking' dreams!
Wouldn't give up on the patches yet, or at least, would have a different NRT in place.... nasal spray or one of the others... Hang in there, and chat a lot!
I agree with Linda -- this is a quite common issue in early recovery -- I had it too and I too was cold turkey (no NRT in any form). My only suggestions are a little extra exercise ... and milk or something soothing at bedtime.
Well done on getting to day four. I'm using patches initially left them on 24 hours got weird dreams so started taking them off at night. Don't think they affect sleep if you don't sleep in them.
I went thru period of not sleeping well then through period of total exhaustion I think it's just stages you go thru as you adapt 😀🙊
Hearing you all. Coming to the end of week 3 and this week a lot of sleep disruption. Just trying to go with it against fighting it or getting to worked up as there's a lot flushing through. I do what I need to, breathing exercises; letting the breath drop really deep, read if I must but last night I tried just being with it against distractions..Watching something etc..It's All try an error with Growth for quitting is opening up a domain I haven't experienced before; so rule of thumb is primarily NOPE and then take it from there. It has and will pass again. Stay close to the site Supermum and express what you need to, there's wonderful on here and the more the merrier :O)
Just wondered if you've tried chamomile tea before bed to help you sleep and some of the breathing techniques under pinned posts might help too, keep going coz you're doing great😴💤💤
That's amazing that you said try chamomile tea! I've added that recently....2 wks maybe, as I normally don't sleep well anyway, and the results are amazing! I have also been making a 'milk cocktail' about 1/2 hr. before bedtime attempt, and if I make that, it works SO well. Have been mixing a large dose of instant non-fat powdered milk, (about double what is called for, for one cup, then, with 1/4 c. milk, a small shake of salt... I've actually lost 5#, since it is non-fat, and it relaxes me at night.
I thought I'd better try to make some changes prior to any quit attempt, or I'd be setting myself up to not win!
