Well done on the 7 days. Sadly, feeling tired & depressed is quite common, but things get better. Recognise that there is a difference between the early symptoms of quitting & chronic depression. If there is no sign of the gloom lifting in the next week or 2, speak to your GP. If you can manage the depression without replacing nicotine with some other form of medication I think you will be better off in the long run. Having said that, I have read that a significant percentage of people who suffer from depression also smoke. There are theories that smoking may be a form of self medicating. As for the tiredness....as a smoker you used to periodically pump nicotine, which is a stimulant, into your body & it will take a little while for your body to adjust to normal. On the plus side, you can look forward to being able to being able to sleep in without that nagging urge to get up at sparrow fart to replenish the dwindling nicotine reserves.

I am already starting to feel better. Thanks for your response. It is nice to understand a little better what is going on with me. After not smoking 9 months how do you feel?

Well Leelee, I'd like to be able to tell you I feel FANTASTIC. I'd like to tell you about the earth shattering metamorphosis that has taken place, but in fact, all I feel is NORMAL. Like all NORMAL people, I don't feel any compelling urge to go out into the freezing cold to satisfy a nicotine addiction. I don't suffer anxiety when I find I'm running out of cigarettes. My budget doesn't revolve around ensuring I have money for smokes even if the pantry is bare. I don't get dismayed at the last tax hike in tobacco products. I was fortunate not to have suffered any significant smoking related illness but I did notice after a few weeks that those hills on the golf course weren't as arduous. It's great to be NORMAL.

Sounds awesome!!

Yes, I agree with roneo.. Unfortunately, it seems like we are being punished for making one of the most important health decisions; to quit smoking!!! But it's just our body reacting to withdrawal and it also effects our minds.

You can always find help here. Congrats on your success!! You'll start to feel better soon, and realize the benefits of quitting out-weigh the uncomfortable side effects. If you continue to feel worse, please visit your Dr.

They're all normal side effect, but maybe your Dr can help you through some of the yuckiness and ease your mind.

:)

Thanks!!! Starting to feel better already! Fixing to go on a bike ride. I had a couple of little freak outs today. Pretended to smoke a piece of paper today. Rolled it up like a cigarette and pretended to smoke! Lol! Celery works too!! 😳

hi leelee and welcome to quit support

what you are feeling is perfectly normal .

many of us go through a mild depression or heightened anxiety as part of our body recovering.

have a read of some of the info under the pinned posts as there is some great info on what to expect as part of your quit journey.

We all experience different things and they last for different periods of times. But ask anyone that has been quit for a reasonable amount and they will all tell you none if it last for too long and it is worth it all :) :)

Stay strong and keep this site close :) :)

does this make your quit date 12th January??

Good luck

Hiya lee and welcome to quit support😊

our mantra is NOPE not one puff ever and unfortunately you're experiencing normal side effects, as Roneo has explained so well.

It may not seem like it at the moment but you really are doing the very best thing for your health. Have a look at the pinned posts on the right, there's one called stopping smoking and feeling depressed. It will help you understand what is happening.

Good luck🍀

Sorry forgot to say well done on your first week quit coz this is one of the hardest weeks to get through and you have done it👏🏼👏🏼

Congrats leelee👏🎉🎉

Totally agree with all the responses..... My physical withdrawals lasted a month.......aching teeth, nausea, sweats on and off, nightmares, headaches.... Oh ya... The roof of my mouth was peeling.... That freaked me out but the senior quit members reassured me this was all normal.... I got pretty sick but it's all been worth it😊

I take one day at a time and use our mantra ....

Not One Puff Ever!!!!

All the best!!!

thanks for all of your comments. Hopefully I can do this. Today I went a little crazy. Day 8 and I ripped my bed apart flipped over the mattress and cleaned under the bed all while screaming at my dogs at what pigs they are...at least under my bed is clean. Poor dogs are probably wondering wth I was screaming about. Lol!

I'm thinking I had superhuman strength this day cause I can't pick up this mattress today. I need to put my dust ruffle back on. Guess I'll wait for a strong craving and rip it off the bed like the Hulk...shouldn't be long now😏
