Aching: Has anyone had problems with their gums... - Quit Support
Aching
Hi donesmokin yep I'm afraid it is ๐ We give our teeth and mouth a right bashing when we smoke so it can take a while for them to settle down, bleeding gums is also really common... Try paracetamol that might help take the edge off ๐
I never realised this, my gums pour with blood and it's been 12 weeks since I quit. Do you know how long this is likely to last for?
Unfortunately this is something I suffered with as well๐ฉ
Corsydl mouthwash is good or just warm salt water rinses and remember not to brush hard and use baby soft toothbrush. It takes a while but It will get better๐x
I've been using corsodyl toothpaste and corsodyl mouthwash and use an oral B electric toothbrush, but to no good effect. I hope it stops soon
That's good coz you're doing everything you can and maybe a check up with your dentist who'll be very impressed you're a non smoker now๐๐ผ
I think that's what I'll have to do and I'm sure he'll be shocked, he's been having a go at me for long enough now
Iv had bleeding gums a bit but not sure if it was normal withdrawal response or because I gave my teeth an extra scrubbing with a toxic whitening powder to celebrate quitting!
It is a response to quitting smoking though my dentist told me that years ago. Sorry not sure how long it lasts.
As said before corsydil is good mouthwash.

My dentist is a little less than sympathetic re the smoking
Actually I was at the dentist last week for normal check k up and he was really pleased although I haven't had any problems so far he always went on about it, anyway I did mention that my gums were a bit sore when flossing and he said it was probably recorvery and warned me that a lot of people discover they have gum disease when they stop because smoking masks the symptoms until often too late to treat, shocker....so go visit dentist asap if you have gum problems and definitely use corsydil as a lot of the time that will be the treatment. Hope it gets better soon.
I was at the hygienist about 2 months ago and it was then that she said that she can now see a huge improvement in my teeth..... It took me 18 months of quitting!!! And I go to the dentist every 6 months without fail and see her every 3months....... Just goes to show the damage I've done over the years, no wonder they go on at us sooooo much about smoking ๐๐
