I quit cold turkey and have had no cravings at all. But my teeth and gums hurt horrible. Is there a mouth wash that will help with the pain?

Morning Meme, well done on your quit, especially cold turkey with no cravings!

I had the same problem with my mouth and used cordysyl (can't remember how to spell it) for a while. My dentist advised me not to use mouthwash directly after brushing or to use the cordysyl for long and to start flossing more regularly and make sure I brushed the gum line.

Teeth and gum issues are really common after quitting but if it's very painful perhaps a trip to your dentist could help.

good luck :)

Hi Meme,

Welcome to quit support and congratulations on your Cold turkey quit. painful and bleeding gums tends to be a very common occurrence in the quit process. Like Lily says, if you are suffering. a trip to the dentist will give you peace of mind.

All the very best on your quit journey :) :)

Hi Meme, like Lily says Corsydyl is the best mouthwash. I got some from my docs. But it is sold in any chemist. :)

Hiya meme and welcome :)

Have got to agree that corsydl is good and warm salt water will also help :)

I suffered with gums and teeth as well and dentist told me to stop flossing and use those little interdental brushes in between teeth and yes it helped. Congratulations on your quit, it will improve although I know how painful it can be. Hang in there :) :) x

Hi ya Meme and a big warm welcome to this lovely quit support forum :) and a big well done to you for getting stuck in and quitting the smokes :)

I bow down to you Meme for going it cold turkey cos I could never have done it that way. I see you've had lots of help from the girls :) ''Corsodyl '' is the correct spelling :D it comes in a mouthwash, toothpaste, spray and a gel :) and you can get it from most chemists and even super stores like Asda, Tesco etc :)

Meme, if you would please let Jillygirl or myself know when your quit date was, then we can put you onto the Wall of Winners :)

Please keep intouch and let us know how you get on :)

Pete :)

Hi all. I'm on day 7 cold turkey and all my top teeth hurt. I couldn't work it out but thanks to you guys I now know. The first few days weren't great and I came close to going back several times. My problems are more physical than mental at the moment. Does anyone know how long teeth hurting lasts?

Hiya imfitter and welcome to quit support😊

Well done on 7 days quit, great achievement👍🏼

It's very hard to say how long your teeth will hurt as everyone is different but it will pass. Your dentist will be very happy with you as smoking causes gum disease and horrible staining, so the next time you have them cleaned they'll stay nice and white. That's just one of the many benefits of your quit. Our motto is NOPE not one puff ever🚭🚭🚭

Hang in there for better days ahead and it will all be worth it😊

Hi Imfitter, a big warm welcome to our lovely quit support community :) and congratulations for reaching 7 days quit and cold turkey too :) :)

If you could please let me have your quit date, then I can keep your Winner badges up to date :)

Like our lovely Briarwood has said, a lot of us suffer with our teeth and gums when we quit smoking and we all have different times for recovery :o If you think Imfitter, we smoked though our teeth and gums :o and our gums form a sort of crust to combat this :) When we quit our gums dont need this coating anymore :) thus we end up with sort of baby gums again until they harden off to our new life style :)

You can get Corsodyl mouth wash, toothpaste etc from your local chemist, this may help you, plus perhaps get a softer toothbrush :)

Please just be patient and all will come good for you :) :)

Pete :)

Goodmorning Imfitter☕️☕️☕️3am... My teeth ached for 6 weeks and the roof of my mouth was raw and peeling for about a month.... I rinsed with warm salt water..... I was worried but the people on this site told me all was normal process so I felt reassured and sure enough everything healed up..... Pete reassured me my mouth was shedding the damaged skin and replenishing it with healthy new skin and he was so right😊

Youre doing fantastic 👏 Keep your reason you quit close and us too !!

Ps couldn't believe smoking has physical withdrawal..... Thought it was all about cravings and will power..... Nope not one Puff

Thanks that's good to know. They're a little better today but me too I'd rather have false teeth than smoke. I never knew that it was so physically impairing giving up. I'm so glad I have and now I realise how my body was reacting to it I'll never go back.

That's fantastic Imfitter👍🏻

It helped me beyond words knowing that all my physical problems were a normal part of quitting ...... Just watch ol Mr Nic....... He's cunning and patient..... Watches me all the time ....
