So day two of no smoking and its hard I was basically scared into stopping by the docter I went on Friday about a cough I had for weeks just thinking she would give me antibiotics and that would be it on no how wrong was I she wants me to go for a chest x ray she also wanted to give me an inhaler and to go for a sprimeter test I don't want to do any of these things I saw my dad die from copd and from the day he knew he had it he went downhill so I've decided that the best thing I can do is give up smoking and not know but its so hard anyone else in this posistion

Giving up smoking is definitely the best thing you can do for yourself so well done on your commitment

cdn.mdjunction.com/componen...
Yes Friday the 13 was my quit date and I am vaping can't believe I have a full packet of tobacco in the house and not touched one fag
we all do it different...i too had smokes about for over 3 months.. For me..it meant that i was in control and choosing not to have a smoke
Hi Done!
I am just seeing this glolin! I didn't realize others did this too. I had two packs (that had been opened) and an e-cig in my house when I quit.
Threw them all out a couple of weeks ago. I quit cold turkey.
None of us are alone here in our quit.
Everyone here is pulling for you Done. This site really is a lifeline. Lean on us. The admin and other members are awesome folks. Someone is always around the site it seems.

Hi, Donesmokin
I had exactly the same situation. So basically 4 weeks ago, I went to the doctors because of this cough I had for months, and they wanted to do chest x ray, they prescribed me inhalator. I stopped smoking and 2 days ago, cough went away. Note - I already had asthma, so it might be bit different.
Hiya donesmokin and welcome to quit supportπ
Well done for making the decision to quit and although it's hard at the moment, you really are doing the best thing you can for your future health.
Just take one day at a time and those days will add up.
Lots of help here for ya so good luckππx
Hi Donesmokin .. congratulations on your life saving and life enhancing decision! Like Briarwood says: Just take one day at a time and those days will add up.
Let us know how you are doing!
Thanks for all your support at the moment I really don't feel any different is this normal I still feel tired and at the moment I can't see any benefit from giving up when do you notice any difference
You will start to notice and feel better! Keep up the quit. I'm 6 weeks in and NEVER thought that I would do this!
We all quit for different reasons! Your reason is a great one! Heck all quits are great!
Please keep with it! Go for a brisk walk and you may notice how great that feels to not be so winded so fast. π€ππ
Hiya donesmoking, well done for giving up smoking ππ
However I think you should seriously think about the tests. I too had to go 're spirometer test and feared the worse..... it wasn't COPD and that really put my mind at rest. Just because your dad had this awful condition (i can't even begin to imagine what that must have been like for you and your family) doesn't necessarily mean that you will too. It may be your doc just taking extra precautions.
Whatever you decide we will support you in you quit in any way that we can π
Good luck hun and keep us posted ππ
Thank you I have decided not to have the tests because I'm better of not knowing the docter gave me antibiotics and my cough has now gone if I go for the test and its not copd I will then probably go back to smoking so I would rather not no and just assume it is if you get what I mean
Nearly made it through another day the way I look at it is I have had 3 mornings getting up and drinking tea no cig 3 days of meals no cig after watched tv programmes no cig in the adverts so if I can do all these things without cigs this is how the rest of my life should be right!!
you are doing really well...you will get to the stage where you just dont even think about smoking for most parts of day.. Always keep your guard up as ole mr nic tends to rear his ugly head when you least expect it.
Stay strong and enjoy the journey.. it can become a bit of a roller coaster - read up on what to expect as your body recovers (under the pinned posts to the right)
Hey donesmokin..... Congrats on a huge decision...... My decision was based on fear as well. Young women in my family who smoke have multiple strokes.... Some disabling .......... I just can't gamble with my life anymore..... I'm 7 weeks smokefree........ The withdrawals can be physical and/or psychological. Everyone is different .......... You picked the right community to help you along your quit journey....... Keep us near....... I do everyday

Ps. Watch alcohol.....a huge trigger in the beginning to light up
Hi, I saw you were following me whatever that means so I thought I would drop u a line. My name is Debbie I live in a town (King City) just North of Toronto, Ontario Canada. I did all those tests, as well as stress test I did the small one, the first time I tried I fell off the machine as I had never been on those walking machines lol. The lady wouldnt let me do it over a real b-ch lol. I had a puffer but used it only a month.
I think every dr threatens COPD to people who smoke just to scare the shit out of us. I never heard squat about the xray so I guess Im ok, after 40 yrs of smoking Im sure my lungs arent pretty pink but hopefully not charred. I read your posts and u have been very lucky with side effects good for you. I didnt get the ones u did no sore gums or feeling sick. I got constant headaches, sweating, no sleeping maybe a quick nap if Im lucky and anxiety up my ying yang. I can tell u that Lottie on here has her 4 month free badge and she told me that after 3 months all the symptoms are gone at least they were for her. Im hoping me too and my pal madame we are at the same pace and much of the same symptoms. I will let u know.
If I can help you in anyway just give me a shout and I will happily reply to you. Keep on fighting and if vaping is helping just keep it nic free if u can. Im 100 percent without anything, pure cold turkey BRRRRR lmao. You are doing great be proud
Well done Debbie 10 weeks is fantastic and cold turkey too, I take my hat off to youππ
Sorry you've had some crap side effects but they do disappear eventually ππ
Droopy thanks for the good word. I look up to u guys and to guide me. Lottie wrote and told me all side effects were gone and she is in her 4th month so that gave me hope cause my symptoms are really getting to me especially the headaches and the sweats and no sleeping. I used to sleep 10 hrs min, now if I get 3-4 its a good day.
You 21 months thats almost 2 yrs congrats to you. Tell me any symptoms or cravings now. Did you get relief at 12 weeks or can u even remember then?
I wasn't too bad but about 4/5 months in, I felt really punchy..... just wanted to thump someone !! Which is not great but I just came on here put it in a post and that helped π don't get me wrong getting to 21 months hasnt been a walk in the park. You have good days and shite days, however, eventually the good out way the bad π
I have more money in my account at the end of each month, I don't smell of stale cigs, my family are DELIGHTED and proud of me, I don't look a twat standing outside in awful weather slowly killing myself........ ππππ
There is a pinned post about a poll on side effects we have all had at some point in our quit so please feel free to mooch and add to it π
Even after 21 months I still get cravings...... today I could have smoked but there is no way I would.... firstly I would be mortified if I had to come on here and tell everyone that I had smoked... secondly I could not go through all those side effects again ..
Thirdly I could not face my family and friends..... and finally I like having money again πππ
All the side effects are really worth it so hang on in there ππππ
OMG 4-5 months, shit I thought it was 3 months (12 weeks) that is what was in the post Glolin sent me. Something aboutyour brain receptors, dopamine and 12 weeks. Now u tell me 16-20 I will die of these f--cking headaches. I found out still in menopause so Im on Estrogen but it doesnt seem to be doing squat, Im still sweating. The dr gave me Premarin 0.3mg cost me $20.00 and still sweating.
I have to get some sleep, this is crazy. Lottie said she had no symptoms around 12 weeks but still had cravings at 4 months. How come u had them so long is it because of how long u smoked?
Im not happy about this Im going to go pout and sweat with my headache. Wait til madame hears this, she and I r in the boat except she gets to sleep ad I dont
Debbie take a deep breath......... And now breath out π
No two quits are the same we are all individuals. I didn't have headaches or sweats at 4/5 months I had an emotional effect... Not everyone feels like that but I did.
What glolin and emjay have told you is correct but you need to be more positive. Negativity makes you feel worse π That's why doing some excerise will make you feel better.
If your sweating more due to menopause then drink more water, coz your body is dyhydrating you which is not helping the headaches!!
Stay strong and keep the faith π
Droopy cant find the post u r talking about side effects I didnt see it. I cant do exercise I have detiorating discs and my back will go into spasm and I quit my pain meds didnt think they were working anymore afer 10 yrs give or take but who knows now I have to baby my back. I tried shovelling the ow outside and ping my back started killing me so I had to stop at least I got the porch done for the dog lol.
I will drink more water. Ive been downing my mountain dew so I will give water a go dont much like it but if it will help I'll try anything.
I was counting on 3 months just to know the end was near for my suffering and no sleep. My body wont take that many months of 3-4 hrs of sleep a day. Im just being bitchy Droopy pay me no mind. This is just so friggin hard with no garantee of staying smoke free. Mr nic is always watching and tempting, like crack to an addict. Thanks for the kind words
Debbie there is a guarantee of being nic and smoke free, give yourself a break hun coz you are doing soooo wellπ Sometimes everything just clicks into place π
Your trying to break a habit of a lifetime and deal with the shite that is the menopause, you will get through this just gotta hold in there π
You just come on and moan to your hearts content
Ps: glad you got the porch cleared π
Debbie look under the news feed, I have bumped up the poll (sorry it was a poll not a pinned )
where is this newsfeed located Droopy I dont really know my way around. I get your responses twice is there a reason for this
