mdelsan, I am a newbie here and I am on Day 26 of my quit. I've been to the doctor and have taken two rounds of antibiotics, a corticosteroid shot, an inhaler, Mucinex, and now Singulair. This morning I was so happy because I was short of breath but I coughed up a lot of mucus for the first time. However, it stopped and my breathing became terrible. Now, I am fine again. It will indeed drive a person crazy and I also feel like I am part owner of those over the counter pharmaceutical companies. Sigh. Well. Whatever it takes. Oh, p.s. I am also going through menopause. Ugh!

Aup Teddy, sorry you've still got the bronchitis :( but as you say, it should get a lot easier for you now your a non smoker :) :)

As for the nasty salty taste in your mouth, its pretty normal, it should only last a couple of days :o When I first quit, I could smell and taste tarmac :D :D

You will be able to taste and smell things a lot better soon, you just see :)

Stay strong now Teddy and see's ya soon :)

Hi Monky, still have the salty taste in my mouth and saliva is very frothy , is this normal when quitting smoking? ( nearly 3 months now)

monky profile image
monkyAdministratorCake sniffer outerβ€’ in reply toTeddybear123

Hi ya Teddy its lovely to see ya gal and still well and truly on your way to freedom :) :)

Ermmm, when I had that tarmac taste in my mouth it was pretty early on in my quit and only lasted for about a week or so :) But saying that, I didnt quit cold turkey :o soooo, it may be different for you :o :)

Am just wondering Teddy, do you drink plenty of fluids ? cos if you get dehydrated, this can cause a salty taste in your mouth :o If you do drink plenty of fluids, then I would nip and see your GP and see what they come up with :o

I have found this web site Teddy, please have a read :) :)

explain-health.com/salty-ta...

Teddy, i will try to help you in any way I can :) please think if you have any other symptoms too :o You take care now and please keep us posted on how you get on :) :)

Pete :) xx

Hi Monky, Thank you for your reply. I suspect the salty taste and frothy saliva is due to GERD which is something i had in the past and take Lanzoprazole for. This has only started again since my doctor prescribed inhalers , brown and blue ones. Could this be the answer? Has anyone else experienced acid reflux when using inhalers ?

Thank you.

Dear All, Please may I apologise in advance for being a moan but I'm having a really down day and need to tell someone ! It is nearly 3 months since I stopped that awful smoking but , although I knew it wouldn't be easy , I had no idea it would be this hard. I expected to have bad cravings and mood swings but its been much more than that ! I don't want to put anyone off giving up smoking , it is a disgusting and dangerous habit which coasts a fortune but I wish Id have known about the other withdrawal symptoms beforehand so that I could have been better prepared , not that I would have stayed a smoker - oh nooo.

I have a really bad cough and breathlessness which my doctor says is asthma. I disagree , I think its just my body reacting to the fact that for 50 years I have pumped it full of toxic chemicals. The asthma nurse has given me steroids , blue inhalers and a brown inhaler. These have made me so poorly. I feel really down but she says I need to take them. Is this the future for me ??? (rhetorical question ). Im going to go for a good brisk walk and enjoy the fresh air. Sorry to moan. Hope you all are doing well. I see so many positive comments here. Love to you all xxxxxxx

Hi ya Teddy :) :)

Hay gal, if you want a moan, then flippin moan gal :) I'm so sorry your having a bad time of it at the moment :( BUT, just please give it time eh :) your body will come to terms with not smoking soon :)

Rite Teddy, you have a bad cough and breathlessness :o soooo, do a lot of us when we quit the smokes :o your very nearly 3 months quit now, BUT we are all different :o and we heal at different points of our quit :) Sooo, please, please, just give it a bit more time :) :)

As for your inhalers, try to hold back before you use them, try to be strong gal :) BUT saying that, if you truly need them, then have them :)

Teddy, you keep on walking and enjoying the fresh air gal :) :)

You are getting to where you want to be Teddy, thats to be FREE again :) :)

PS, sorry I havnt got back to you before now, BUT, I couldnt get on this site for some reason :o

Pete :) :) xxxx

Hey Teddy, how are you feeling today? :o Hope it's much better and you are feeling in a better frame of mind. I have to say, how you have described the way you have been feeling can quite often be a positive sign that your body is recovering from all those years of feeding it all those 4,000 plus toxins :-)

Remember to use your inhalers as prescribed and if you are concerned in any way, then please don't hesitate in booking another appointment with your nurse or GP to put your mind at ease :-)

Stay strong, you can do this :-)
