Hi hether and welcome to quit support.
Well done on making the decision to quit smoking as it is the best thing that you can do for your health.
In regards to coughing, this is a very normal part of the process of your lungs clearing out all the gunk from smoking. Take a look under the topic headings as there is a lot of information on what to expect has part of the quitting process.
I never got the cough, so am not much help to you, but hopefully someone who did have it be along soon and can give you some suggestions.
All the very best on your quit journey
Aup Hether a big warm welcome to our quit support forum and big congratulations on your 13 days quit
As our lovely Glolin has said, most of us get the cough when we first quit but it does get easier and will go, but if you are concerned about it, then perhaps nip and see your GP just to be on the safe side Some of us get a sort of flu when we quit, we have nick named this, the quitters flu
If you are coughing phlegm up, this is normal, like Glolin has said, its just your lungs clearing themselves out Try to drink plenty of fluids and maybe rub some Vic onto your chest, this will perhaps help to ease it a bit
Good luck with your quit Hether and if you need any help, just give us a shout cos there's usually somebody about
Pete
Keep coughing and the people here have some suggestions.
Your lungs had to grow extra cell lining to try and protect against the posions you inhaled and those cells are slufing off and the cilli that used to move mucus has grown back yet from you burning them down but they will come back. Here is my favorite site and this discusses your lungs healing:
whyquit.com/joel/Joel_02_17...
Joel has free videos and free PDF books.
I read and watched everything he had on his site and then quit cold turkey.
It's proven to be the most successful long term method but it's not fr everyone.
You really quit quit quit when you go cold turkey!!!!
Hiya hether and welcome π
Congrats on your quit and you've been given some good advice from our lovely members already. My tip is if you are a gym member, the steam room is excellent for your lungs and if not, you can inhale steam from a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head. Olbas oil can be added to it as well and it will help to loosen all the gunk. A few drops in a burner or on your radiators will moisten the air also π x
