Lung transplant pending test results I yet to start

I have been suffering COPD chronic bronchitis/shortness breath emphysema.its been 4rs end of mon. Yesterday I was informed I must start testing for lung transplant. I am severe stages of disease. I quit smoking regular smokes and about 2yr ago started smoking "eblucig" like em too lately been very sick and can't even smoke them tho I tried. Its been 2 weeks or possibility of more since I puffed a ecig. My doc. Says I must be 6 Mon nicotine free to be considered. Well obviously its not been 6 month. I found I smoked less while on ecigs. But I have now them boxed up and giving to son cause I really need this transplant. Haven't smoked a real CIG in 2 yes. Although abstaining from almost all form of nicotine(except the eblu) I am afraid I may not qualify because I hear nicotine stays on blood stream for some time. Idk what to do as this is a rush to get done and to be rejected because of ECIG will just be devisating. I need this transplant but thought I was doing self a favor using them since no tar smoke etc. And yet I still could be rejected due to nocotine waiting 6 Mons to be clear of nocotin isn't an optionas I am critical. Idk I'm stressed extremely I'll and need this. Can anyone give me a bit of support or advise or a reality slap...thanks for reading my long post, sincerely and best to all,

Hiya Shaless and welcome to quit support. This is not a medical response but just from what I've read nicotine stays in your body for 3 to 4 days but apparently metabolizes into something in your body that can be detected by a blood test up to 20 days. Drink lots and lots of water to flush out the toxins and I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. You have done so well in quitting that hopefully by the time you have a blood test, the nicotine will be gone completely. i think that nicotine from an ecig is not used by the body in the same way that it is with actual cigs. Therefore it might not absorb as much and may go quicker. But again this is not hard facts and only my thought on the matter. I really hope you can get your transplant and my very best wishes to you. I'm sure someone more experienced will give you better information than I can. You are doing everything you can to give yourself the best possible chance and I hope that it all works out well for you πŸ˜ƒ

Briarwood...thank you so much just for the possibilities of it all. I am desperately afraid to have it done and yet even more afraid not to my Dr. Give me a 5 yr life expect. So I must have this done in hopes to extend my life for my sons and to see their futures am families grow. But if I go to soon for testing and ecig nic. Still on system I am screwed. Excuse the terminology there. This is good ofo you have provided as I heard wcid nicotine isn't as absorbant as a real smoke. Thanks for taking the time to address my serious issue. I really appreciate you.

Hi Shaless and welcome to quit support. My understanding is the same as Briar's with nicotine leaving your system within a week and traces in either blood and urine can be picked up up to a month after quitting.

I have no idea how it works for the nicotine in the e-cig, but i really can't see how there it would be any different as its the body that metabolizes the nicotine irrespective of where it comes from :)

Sorry i cant really offer any help but hopefully Emjay will be along soon and provide you with some more information :) :)

You are doing really well with not having the e-cig and i wish you all the very best on getting the green light for you transplant. Be proud of what you are doing as you are doing the very best you can :) :)

Good Luck xx
