Hey Tezhar, welcome to Quit Support
You really are making the best decision for your health.
There are many of our members who are living with COPD and they have found that stopping smoking is / has made a huge difference to their health.
Although you cannot reverse the damage already done to your health due to COPD, by stopping smoking you really can stop the disease from progressing
As Chrissie says, it's important to try and stay strong and remember that you can do this! Let us know which NRT you have chosen and we'll help you all we can.
Stopping smoking is the single most important thing that you can do for your health - and you are doing it
I'm on 10 day of quitting. I suddenly started experiencing shortness of breath before I quit which is what spurred me on. I haven't been out of breath as such. My chest gets tight and I feel that I can't get enough air. I'm having spirometry testing next week so I don't know if I've got COPD or not. My Doctor said it could asthma or a combination of the two. She also said it could be acid reflux and she also thinks my symptoms are aggravated by anxiety. It's true that I'm very anxious, especially after seeing my Mother have a long and painful death from COPD related illnesses. At the moment I'm short of breath and feel absolutely lousy. I also feel as if I've left it too late to give up smoking after 32 years and the last 10 of them were at 30 per day. People talk about coughing the tar and rubbish up. That's not happening to me, I have got a cough but it's a dry irritatingg cough with no mucous. The Doctor was so sure that at least some of my symptoms would be reversible but at the moment it doesn't feel like that will be the case. After 10 days I'd hoped I may feel some benefit.
I'm on day 10 with quitting. The first couple of days were awful. It was mainly agitation I think. It's still hard now but nowhere near as bad as though first few days. Sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with COPD but you're certainly doing the right thing in quitting. I'm having spirometry testing next week. Just wondering what your symptoms are and if you have asthma too?
