Delicate subject but..Anyone suffering with wind?

I have now stopped for 3 weeks and very proud of myself after 42 years habit. However, I am putting on weight although I am only eating 1000-1200 calories per day. I have read that water extension is a problem of giving up but wondered if anyone else had any pearls of wisdom. I know that weight gain is my biggest fear/hurdle. Also I am suffering from loads of wind (which is embarrassing) - anyone else suffering from this?

I've probably gained about 16lbs in nearly 4 months since I quit but I'm a comfort eater & also had other things to worry about appart from my quit.I figure better be a bit fat and smoke free (you can loose the weight) than be a smoker.I've had no probs with wind tho.

Thanks Yellowsnowdrop. I think exercise might be the key....as I am not up and down going out for a fag ; )

I had no problems with wind, except once when I decided to drink fizzy pop instead of tea or water. :)

Aup Rozi, a big warm welcome to this lovely quit site :) :) and well done you for getting to 3 weeks quit and YES you feel proud of yourself, cos we all know how hard it is to quit, try to keep positive and focused on your quit eh :)

Rite then, erm, wind !! am just wondering if you are using the patches to help you with your quit ?? I ask you this cos when I used them they gave me wind for the first few weeks, then it seemed to pass :)

Ha ha ha, I also drink lager and when I first quit, I thought I would kill 2 birds with 1 stone as the saying goes, as in quit the fags and quit the drinking !! PLEASE DONT TRY THIS AT HOME !! So I stuck the patch on and started to drink orange tango, that was ok for a few hours, then it started, I had wind coming from every direction, I tell ya :o :D :D Luckily it was the weekend, sooooooo I spent most of it in my garage :| I hasten to add, I knocked the orange tango on the head :)

Hope to speak soon, Pete :)

Hi Pete. No patches, just cold Turkey and no fizz or alcohol. I have started drinking green tea though. Could be the reason I suppose??

Green tea eh :o hmmmm, that sounds a bit like drinking Brussel sprouts to me :| :D :D

I was thinking of trying that myself, ermmmm, maybe I will see how you get on with it first :o please keep me posted :)

I take my hat off to you for going cold turkey :) :)

Haha Pete, drinking Brussels sprouts :-)

Not usually into the health food stuff but the best green tea is called Matcha. It's Japanese ceremonial grade tea that does look like Brussel sprout water. But, it is 200 times more potent than regular green tea. Look it up on the net....it's not quack stuff, medically investigated and all that. I have decided that must be what's doing it (the 'wind' thing).

Hey Rozi well done on week 3. Your doing really well. You should be proud.

Yeah I suffered with wind for a few weeks also when I started to quit. Not sure why that is. But I think its normal.

Emjay, can you shed any light (not best choice of words) on why we have more wind when we quit?

I also suffered with wind which lasted a few weeks and was awful so I know how you feel but keep going the wind will too x

I'm really glad there is someone else with the wind thing. I was beginning to think it was just me and wondered if it would ever go away so thanks for letting me know. It is a bit weird though....I would be interested in a 'clinical' explanation if anyone has one.
